Here we go again

masks-required ‌

Due to rising numbers in the Covid cases in the Interior we have been mandated by the Provincial Government that masks are now mandatory.

Masks must be worn at all times in the shop. The numbers allowed in the shop stay the same ....limit of 10.... and we have the hand sanitizing stations still at the door and at the till.

We ask for everyone to be respectful and considerate towards all small and large businesses out there. Together, with kindness and calmness we will get through this. Thank you.

Carolyn Dauk

carolyn-dauk-bargello ‌

Carolyn Dauk brought in her jaw dropping gorgeous Bargello quilt. This is a new technique for Carolyn and she is loving it!

Isn't her colour gradation beautiful? I have always been partial to teals and browns and a Bargello pattern really sets it off.

When Carolyn first brought in her quilt top for us to quilt I refused it.....only because I knew of the absolutely most perfect backing ever! But now to see if I could still get it.

Was a bit of a struggle but we got it and I phoned her right away. She brought her quilt top back in for us to quilt for her and when you see the picture below of the backing you will understand why I felt that only that backing would work. Lori Dewart did the quilting and it is just fantastic!

The backing is called Whispering Pines and no....I have not one drop left and little chance of getting more. Will keep trying....

Carolyn, thank you so much for your patience in waiting the backing, your smile in this picture says it all!

Elodie LeCerf

elodie-le-cerf-earth-toned-quilt ‌

Elodie LeCerf brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her.

She was looking for an earth toned palette for the front and I think she just nailed it! These are all batiks and melded very well. If you have some batiks in your stash, you may want to take a good look at Elodie's project and see what you can come up with.

The inner border with all the fabrics from the center were a great addition as well as a way to expand the quilt and bring the center outward. Her backing is amazing as well. She chose a wide backing with old world maps on it. Every colour she has in the quilt top is in the backing!

Thank you so much Elodie for sharing all your creativity with us all!

Are you wanting to get some of your projects quilted? We are at a week to a week and half turnaround. To get an estimate of what your quilt will cost to be quilted :
length x width x .03cents. You can just bring your quilt in with batting and backing 4" larger around or send an email to me at info@fabricshelf.ca

Maggie Pycock

maggie-pycock-t-shirt-quilt ‌

Maggie Pycock created this amazing T-shirt quilt for friends of hers. All the heavy Metal bands that had been T-shirts are incorporated into this quilt.

Maggie stabilized the back of the T-shirts with a iron on interfacing [Pellon 911FF] and then had to figure out how big of blocks, the sashing and finally how to get it to the size that is wanted. Didn't she do a great job of it?

Bill helped Maggie with the long arming using the computer programming and Glide thread. She kept the pattern fairly loose so the quilt would retain the whole comfy cuddle up feeling. Maggie is a great planner on her quilts with much effort put into thinking about where it is going, how to maximize the effect wanted and the overall look at the end. It sure paid off on this one!

Thank you to Maggie for letting us all come on your -shirt quilt journey with you. Just a fabulous quilt and I know the recipients are going to be thrilled!

Vicki Hendricks.

vicki-hendricks-wedding-scrappy-quilt ‌

Vicki Hendricks brought her charming scrappy lap quilt in for us to quilt for her. Bright cheerful fabrics and a lovely finish to this one!

Bill did the quilting on this one with an edge to edge design called "Cumulus Clouds". It was just perfect for this quilt as it locked down every seam at least once and added a softness to the project. Just gorgeous Vicki!

Thank you to Vicki and to Bill for a great blending of talents!

‌

Verna Miller

verna-miller-fishy-batiks ‌

Verna Miller was in to quilt this lovely little lap quilt. She named the quilt "Fishy Batiks" with the yummiest batiks ever! Love love and more love those colours.

Lori Dewart helped Verna to finish off her masterpiece using an edge to edge design on the computer called Fleur des  Lys.Verna was done in 2 hours start to finish so was a very happy quilter with her afternoon free to get the binding on.

Thank you to Verna for sharing all your ideas with us and inspiring us to keep trying new things.

Celebration Tree Skirt Class

celebration tree skirt ‌

We have a new class to announce coming this September 18, 19 and 20th. This class is taught by Anne Hall, a CI for Quiltworx so you know that you are getting topnotch instruction and help.

You will have opportunity to custom design your own tree skirt with your colour choices.

Custom colourways if ordered at time of booking UP TO 18th August.  You will get to see the colourway before the kit is cut so that you can tweak it.  It would be helpful if you choose ONE focus fabric that you would like in your quilt from Heather’s store.  Preferably batiks due to some skinny points, but they don’t have to be.

You can also opt to make a smaller tree skirt as this one is quilt large, 60". Just let us know what you want and we will do our best to accommodate.

The cost of the class is $295 for all three days and includes the pattern with foundation papers. Times are 9:30 to 5 each day.

You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or you can sign up on the website at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Falling Leaves

fallingleaves ‌

Fall is coming and is just around the corner. I don't remember when I have ever been so anxious for the cooler weather to come!

Isn't his project so beautiful? I love the colours of the bright leaves and the look of them falling is so peaceful and serene. I shall now take my rose tinted glasses off.

If you have a stash of lovely Autumn fabrics this would be a great project to do up quickly and easily. Pattern is a free download from Benartex Fabrics.

I Love Sn'Gnomies

i-love-sngnomies-panel ‌

New in the shop this week! Henry Glass flannel fabrics including the panel and all its friends. This is lovely soft thick flannel that would be so cute done up as a winter lap quilt.

The colour tones are milk chocolate browns and light blues to teals. I really think a quilt made from this line needs to come live at my house. I do have PJs that are the same colour so that would work very well!

Check out these fabrics in the shop and on line at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/I-LOVE-SNGNOMIES---PANEL-x59485376.htm
