Meet Your Neighbour

sue-cackette

This week I thought you all might like to meet my mom, Sue Cackette. You will have to excuse the photo .....it is the only one I could get from this blur of energy called mom! Caught her a bit surprised!

Sue was born in Trail, BC to a hard working family. Her dad worked at the smelter and her mom was a nurse until she married. Only unmarried women were allowed to be a nurse in those days.

Sue was the third child in a family of 5 children. She was a very busy young lady working from the time she was 13. She worked in the Dentist office before and after school, at a funeral home as well as babysitting most evenings. Mom has always been energy plus!

Sue graduated at 15 from high school but the universities would not take someone so young so she stayed to do Grade 13 in Trail before moving to Victoria for Normal school. Her first teaching job was in Surrey, then moving to Willow River in a one room school. This is where she met my dad and they married a year later in Vancouver.

Once she had children she stayed home to raise us. Mom always sewed but never quilted. She made clothing, drapes and more. I can still remember the treadle sewing machine that she loved to sew on!

In the early 90s mom and dad moved up to Kamloops and live just 3 doors down from me! How lucky is that? Mom and I are super close and see each other most days. She is one remarkable lady and still has the energy  of the average 30 year old! She cuts her grass, paints her house and keeps  me running to keep up!

I hope you all enjoyed meeting my mom. I am so incredibly lucky to have her in my life! Love you mom!

Geri Auger has to be one of the most excited long arm clients we have ever had hands down! She came in for her lesson and to long arm quilt this beauty of a quilt for her guild.

Geri just made our day when she saw the finished quilt and her eyes were watering! She did an amazing job and we are thrilled for her!

Thank you to Geri for totally making our day! I still get the giggles just thinking of your expression when you completed your quilt!

Tooting the Horn

  announcement-show-sunday

I find this a bit awkward to be honest so I am going to let Barb Hollingshead do the speaking on this one. She has sent me 2 emails in regard to the KTW contest:

It is time to toot your own horn!  You were nominated in the Reader's Choice Awards for Kamloops This Week as the best fabric store.  Put that in the newsletter, asking folk to vote daily for you.  I just discovered that yesterday, so know that you have two votes already!

I chatted with the folks at KTW.  In Order for your vote to count, you MUST vote in at least 25 categories every time you vote.  Sounds like a lot of work, but it really didn’t take that long.  And, if you are the winner, it will be worth every second of time!

So, if you are putting this in the newsletter for the next few weeks, (and I hope you are), ensure you tell people, 25 different categories every time you vote.  Vote every 24 hours.

Click on the link to vote: http://readerschoice.kamloopsthisweek.com

I have to admit it would be pretty darn cool to win! That would mean a party at the shop to celebrate!
