Wendy Logan

wendy-logan

Wendy Logan was in to use the computer program for the first time. With Lori Dewart's help she fished an awesome quilt with perfect results!

It was a crazy day at the shop with freight coming in the door, a load of giggles to the point our stomachs hurt and I have to say, Wendy just went with it and can't wait to come back for another quilt finish!

Thank you so much to Wendy for sharing your talents and your laughter with us all! It was a stellar day!

Carol Needabo

carol-needabo-3

Carol Needabo brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her. Bill did the longarming and it turned out gorgeous! I am always so amazed at how the quilting brings the quilt to life!

Working with only a blue palette Carole did a great job of balancing the light, medium and dark values of the fabric. She spaced the light blocks out evenly for a super finish!

Remember that you can bring your quilts in for us to quilt. The cost is $.03 cents per square inch. Take the length and x by the width x .03  and you will have the cost of the quilting done by us. We are at a 1 - 2 week turnaround currently.

Thank you to Carol for sharing your talents with us all!

Christine Loewen

christine-lowoen

Christine Loewen brought her quilt in as well to be quilted. This one is pieced by her daughter and the piecing was very well done!

Bill did the longarming on this one and had so much fun with the computer program with Glide thread making his job just so much easier!

We have received a large order of the Glide thread so check them out in the shop and online at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Thank you so much to Christine for letting us be a part of your quilt! It is beautiful!

Drina Latrace

drina-latrace-enchanted-garden

Drina Latrace was in to spend the day with us to quilt her jaw dropping Enchanted Garden quilt. Bill helped her to use the computer program and quilt a design with dragonflies all over. Edge to edge design called Dragon Wings with a rich green Glide thread just emphasized Drina's quilt! Purple minky was used on the back for a great textured look!

The pattern is by In the Beginning Fabrics and is called Enchanted Garden. This was Drina's very first attempt at applique and I must say....she has an incredible determination! She learned so much in a class with Joni Newman and transferred those skills to the quilt. Just gorgeous!

The quilt was made for friends of theirs who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. What an amazing gift of a lifetime!

Thank you so much to Drina for letting us be a part of your quilting journey!

Jennifer Agar

jennifer-agar-2-quilts

Jennifer Agar was in to pick up her quilts that she had us quilt for her. The green block quilt is so pretty with the colours very evenly spaced. Lori Dewart did the long arming and it turned out beautiful!

The second quilt is a wallhanging or small lap quilt for the Christmas season. Jennifer is a huge seasonal fan so we get to see lots of Christmas quilts from her. The nice thing about Christmas quilts they are always very distinct and have that warm fuzzy feeling to them!

Thank you to Jennifer for sharing all your creativity with us!

Leanne Harrison

Leane Harrison

Leanne Harrison was in to long arm quilt her lovely quilt all done in batiks. This is her second quilt and she just nailed it! I love those blues, greens and purples.

Lori Dewart was in to help her with the computer programming of the quilt and I have to say...that was one very fun day at the shop! Leanne and Lori were definitely a team to be reckoned with and the end result of Leanne's quilt shows the success!

Thank you so much to Leanne for sharing your creativity and your day with us!

Kintsugi

kintsugi-and-the-art-of-repair

Liz Bruce found a piece of fabric that attract her in the shop called "Smooch".The fabric reminded her of the ancient art of Kintsukoroi. Like Sashiko stitching, it makes something broken useable again in a beautiful way.
She sent me an email explaining what it reminded her of  and sent me down a rabbit hole to discover more!

Read more about this ancient art form still used today!

The 400+ year old Japanese art of kintsugi (golden repair) or kintsukuroi (golden joinery) is a pottery repair method that honors the artifact’s unique history by emphasizing, not hiding, the break.

According to art historians kintsugi came about accidentally (well, it does fit). When the 15th-century shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa broke his favorite tea bowl, he sent it to China for repairs and was disappointed that it came back stapled together. The metal pins were unsightly, so local craftsmen came up with a solution — they filled the crack with a golden lacquer, making the bowl more unique and valuable. This repair elevated the fallen bowl back to its place as shogun’s favorite and prompted a whole new art form.

Thank you to Liz Bruce for sharing with us all!

Free Quilt Pattern by Art Gallery Quilts

bicycle-wall-quilt

Is this not the cutest ever for all the bicycle fans out there? Just love the simplicity of this one that leaves the design and the fabrics to do the work.

There is an applique download to the pattern which you will need to tape together, but it shouldn't be too brutal. Not too many fabrics with the largest piece being the white for the wall. Just over 2 meters.

Quilt finishes at 60" x 60" so more of a wall size than a bed size. You could add borders to bring it up to bed size if you wanted.
