Meet Your Neighbour
| |
This week I would like everyone to meet Sandra Fochler. Sandra is an avid quilter with a "no stopping me now" attitude!
Sandra was born in Hamilton, Ontario and grew up in Caledonia,Ontario. She moved to BC in 1980 and was employed by House of Flowers in Salmon Arm. You can see the creativity was there right from the get go.
About 10 years ago Sandra's sister urged her to take up quilting, thinking it would be a perfect fit for Sandra. Well it certainly was......she hasn't quit since! To date she has made over 100 quilts!!!
When Sandra started out she was making mostly queen size quilts, but has since changed the size of her bed. So guess what that meant? She needed to make a whole bunch more of different size quilts!
Sandra is very involved in her community. She has sewn many, many quilts for Ponderosa Lodge as well as bed for animals at the SPCA. Now she concentrates mostly on smaller quilts for Seniors in care and pet beds.
When asked what her favourite part of quilting is she replied with no hesitation at all " the piecing!". She loves to see her project come together and takes great pride in being able to contribute to her community at the same time as have fun with her addiction to quilting!
Thank you Sandra for sharing a bit about yourself with everyone!

Quilt Show April 27/28th
|
|
As always the quilt show will be right here in the Brock Shopping Center, in Kamloops, BC. We are accepting quilts right now!
Our quilt show costs nothing to enter a quilt and everyone is welcome. If you can let us know how big your quilt is that is helpful for arrangement of the quilt racks. We do have a limit of 2 quilts per person, due to space restraints.
We would love to see what you have been working on currently or in the past. The quilts shown are modern, antique, traditional and can be bed quilts, bags, clothing, runners and placemats or anything else that you have made from fabrics.
As a special announcement : When you click on the events of our website you will find all the information on the quilt show, but super exciting scroll down and you will see a slide show of pictures from last years quilt show!! I can only add 12 pictures at a time so it is a short movie. Just enough time for a glass of wine and small bowl of popcorn!
The form for entering a quilt is up on the web site. If you can download the form and fill it out to bring in with your quilt that would be very helpful. You will also be able to pick up forms at the till to take home and fill out. If you can bring the forms in attached to the quilt we will love you!! http://www.fabricshelf.ca
Entry to see the show is by donation to offset the costs and proceeds go to charity. I am cracking my whip, ladies, so you can get your quilts in!

Trish Berry
Here we have Trish Berry with her gorgeous little Christmas table runner. Trish Berry was also in for the long arm certification class so she can finish her quilts quickly, affordably as well as creatively.
Trish is a newer quilter and is thrilled with taking this one off the frame and just binding to go on. I agree, Trish, that is a pretty awesome feeling.
Thank you to Trish for inspiring us all!

Kathy Elliott
Kathy Elliott was in to quilt her gorgeous Spools quilt this past week. She has made a few of these quilts as she loves the pattern so much. Kathy's favourite fabric to use on this project is the Toscana line from Northcott.
I think the use of the piano key border is key to pulling all the colours fromt the center to the outside and creates a fabulous finish!
Thank you to Kathy for sharing with everyone!

Marilyn Salle
Marilyn Salle was in to long arm quilt her lovely traditional quilt. Being a bit of a traditional quilter myself, I found this pattern very appealing. The colours, the layout and the long arm quilting were just spot on!
Thank you to Marilyn for sharing this great quilt with us all!

Wendy Lebek
Wendy Lebek was in to long arm quilt 2 of her quilts! Her Magic Tiles quilt in the reds, blacks and greys is just a show stopper! The vibrancy and layout is perfect.
The smaller quilt she used a panel of super cute dogs and created an Attic Windows quilt to really showcase the fabrics in the panel. Can you imagine getting 2 quilts done in one day? We do love being able to do that on our Millie long arm!
Thank you to Wendy for inspiring everyone!

Diana Hewins
Diana Hewins was in to long arm quilt her amazing Butterfly quilt. This one she chose to free motion quilt and she had a lot of fun with it! Because the surface you work with is so much larger than under your domestic you get a better idea of what you are doing and where you are going! Got to love that!
Fabulous quilt Diana and we are all very impressed with the level of skill in long arm quilting you bring!

Diana Hewins
Diana Hewins long arm quilted this one as well! We have had several keeners lately and we love it!
This project you may find interesting in how she made it. Starting with a border print she chose to put the border print in the blocks, not the border! Really Diana? Where do you come up with all these ideas? She cut the panels into block size, framed them and added sashing. The outside border is coordinated all over print that is just perfect!
Thanks to Diana for another great idea!

Paulette Eccleston
Paulette Eccleston was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous modern quilt. I keep thinking Paulette is going to eventually run out of fabric......but no! She just keeps coming in with another stunning project!
As you can see this one is a sampler quilt which is one of my favourites. Her colours are clear brights and the white background perfectly sets it off!
Thank you to Paulette for sharing with everyone!

Haroldstown Dolmen
This is just an incredible quilt pieced and quilted by Denise Labadie of Boulder Colorado.
Haroldstown Dolmen is a portal tomb in County Carlow, Ireland. If anyone has any more information on what a portal tomb actually is, or where this is situated in Ireland I would love to hear and will be sure to share with everyone.
The quilt measures at 55" x 28" and was pieced and quilted on a domestic machine! Absolutely amazing use of colour and perspective! This is Denise Labadie's original design.
You can always see more amazing quilts by different quilt artists at the The Quilt Show website with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims : https://thequiltshow.com/see-quilts/quilt-of-the-day
