Hero of the Week

beginning August 001

Our Hero of the week this time is Kathleen Alcock.

We chose Kathleen for her generosity in making this gorgeous quilt to donate to the Kamloops Symphony.

The Kamloops Symphony will use the quilt as a fund raising effort. It is so important to keep the arts alive and growing in our community and the Symphony is a vital part of that community.

Stay tuned for further updates on places and dates for the showing of the quilt and ticket availability. We are very actively encouraging [ ok we are begging ] to have the quilt for a week or so with tickets to sell in the shop. We will let you know as soon as we have word.

Thank you Kathleen for supporting the arts in Kamloops and reminding us all to look outside our own world to the bigger world around us.

Margaret Stewart-Smith

  beginning August 010

Margaret Stewart-Smith was in to long arm quilt this gorgeous Desert Sky quilt from Quiltworx.

Margaret won the fat quarters for the project at the trunk show last year. Can you believe how well they all worked together? This just goes to show you that scrappy quilts are sometimes the best ones!

Margaret took the class with Anne Hall in February of this year and did an amazing job of making the quilt!

Thank you to Margaret for sharing your project and your day with us!

Sandra Sugden

  beginning August 012

Sandra Sugden was in to take the class on using the long arm machine and quilted up this beauty of a project.

In the process of moving and sorting she came across the blocks and made them up into the quilt. She has her binding all made and ready to go so home she went to put the final stitches in!

Sandra has already booked her next appointment so as to not forget everything she learned. We are booking into September but still have a few dates available in August. give us a call at 250-376-7630 if you would like to get those flimsies made into quilts!

Five Star Runner

  stars-by-linda

Very exciting news for everyone! One of my best friends and fellow quilting addicts from Haida Gwaii is coming down to teach a class here at the shop!

Linda Rowbotham will be here September 14 and 15th to teach a class using a very cool technique to make these gorgeous table runners. This is not paper pieced. It is a slice and insert method! You literally cannot make a mistake!! Have to love that!

You can make as many stars as you wish. In the sample there are 5 and we will have samples in the shop. Because she lives on the ocean Linda has gone with a beach theme in colours. You could choose any colour you like. Night sky? Bright fun colours? Batiks or regular cottons? The world is your oyster ladies!

Cost of the class is $45 and is a one day class so choose your day and come on in to the shop for this great class. Pattern is included. Please note - the tax is included in the price on the Website

You can sign up in store or on line at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Patchwork Life

PatchworkLife-2

I know it is so ridiculously hot out there, but fall is coming. It is true, in another few weeks the evenings will start to cool down and it will be prime sewing time!

I love this scrappy, easy quilt for the living room. You could make it into bed size if you want just by making more blocks. Layout is essential so make sure you lay it all out before sewing together for perfect results.

This one is made from charm packs but you can easily use your own fabrics if you wish. Just cut into 5" squares and you are good to go.

If you are new to paper piecing or have never tried a Quiltworx pattern this would be  a great opportunity. Check it out on the website : http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Using a strip pack and background fabrics you have a gorgeous 80" quilt that will look fabulous just about anywhere!

This project is rated confident beginner, but is super for quilters who would like a bit of a refresher as well.

Dates of the class are Nov 16 and 17th. You can check it out on line at: http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Trunk Show on Sunday!

032

Don't forget the Trunk show this Sunday with Marvin Ecker from Vernon.

He has some amazing pieces of work done with various teachers. There is a strong element of modern as well as Australian to his pieces. I love the use of the colours and the courage Marvin has to just go out and do what makes him happy! We can all take a page from Marvin's book!

Cost of the trunk show is $5 to help cover transportation expenses. We still have room so if you would like to come let us know so we have enough chairs. See you all then!
