Quilts for Fire Victims 2021

Updates on the story of the Quilt Hug gathering for fire evacuees of Lytton.
When we started this campaign of collecting the quilts for distribution we were hoping for maybe 500 quilts.Well, that ship has clearly sailed. We have surpassed the 1300 mark and are now creeping in on 2000 quilts. Can you believe it?
Quilts have come in from right across Canada as well as the USA. We were thinking to wind things down but as time goes on the craziness out here just seems to multiply every day. And yes it is craziness! Not other word to call this.
All quilts that we receive will be distributed within days of it entering the shop. No piling up anywhere. Marg and Cheryl get them out to the people directly and efficiently. They are 2 of the most incredible women I have ever met.
This week they gave out 85 quilt hugs in Merritt with another 319 from the lower mainland going out to Lilloett for distribution. What a network of fibre artists we have! A huge, huge and even more huge thank you to everyone who has participated in our quilt hugs program. You can still drop quilts off because apparently we may be at this for a while yet! A bit of an understatement that is!

Deidre Morse

Deidre Morse is the July winner of the $50 Gift Certificate! She was pretty darn excited and showed up as fast as she could in a lovely outfit for photo ops.
Deidre lost no time in finding something to spend her GC on as she scoped out the shop to see what all we had in. She decided on some gorgeous aqua rayon batik and is making a top. Deidre has never ventured into garment sewing and thought this might be a good time to give it a whirl. Her top is going to look awesome on her with her Winter colouring! Can't wait to see it!
Congratulations Deidre and thank you so much for sharing your sewing and quilting journey with us all!

Marcia Skaarup

Marcia Skaarup was in to long arm quilt her lovely quilt all in greens, blues, purples and little surprise pops of reds. The white she used looks like snow on top of mountains.Wondering if that was intentional or if Marcia is just that level of creativity???? I think she may be at that level.
Marcia used the computer program for perfect results and the Glide thread was just the icing on the cake.I just love it when Marcia comes in as we never know what she is bringing. She does an incredible amount of quilting with each project so individual.
Thank you to Marcia for sharing all that creativity with us all.

Paulette Eccleston

Paulette Eccleston was in to long arm another of her gorgeous quilts. Do you think she will ever run out of ideas and quilts? Personally I don't think so...
This project is on the modern side of design yet uses sampler blocks. Isn't this just the most original layout? I love it in the bright colours and the small black trim is perfect to just boost everything up that little bit to make it shine.
Thank you to Paulette for again sharing with us all and motivating us to get going and try new things all the time. Well done Paulette!

Verna Miller

The always happy and smiling Verna Miller was in to long arm quilt her masculine patchwork quilt. The simplicity of the pattern, and the colours used are going to be much loved and appreciated!
By using one fabric as a constant in the background Verna created cohesiveness in a scrappy traditional patchwork quilt. Verna did choose to use the computer program as it is so fast and accurate. Also much easier on the body. As well you can drink coffee and eat cookies and watch it stitch away!
Thank you to Verna for sharing with everyone another great project you did!

Bill has rescheduled when he will visit his dad in Salmon Arm to Wednesdays. He will bring your machines out to meet up with Hector in Salmon Arm. there is no added cost for Bill to bring your machines over to Salmon Arm.
Hector then takes the machines back to Kelowna to service and you get your machine back the following Thursday.

Maureen Connolly.

Maureen Connolly was in to long arm quilt her amazing double size quilt. Maureen is always so much fun and easy to work with. She also brings Timbits.
I loved the front of the quilt with all those yummy fabrics and colours and the back is even better! Maureen pieced a doll block into the center of the backing and it is so cool! Unfortunately I got too excited and forgot to take a photo of the back of the quilt so here is a shout out to Maureen to send me a photo or bring the quilt back so I can get a photo for all of you to see next week.
Thank you to Maureen for sharing with us all and for sharing your day with all of us in the shop. Love it when you are in the building!

Charlotte Little

Charlotte Little brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her. All in Australian Aboriginal pattern this is one super interesting quilt.Charlotte seems to have an innate ability to place her fabrics perfectly on her quilt for tones and balance.
Lori Dewart did the long arm quilting on Charlotte's quilts and the results are gorgeous! The computer design chosen is called Kangaroo Hop. How fitting is that?
Are you wanting to get some of your projects quilted? We are at a week to a week and half turnaround. To get an estimate of what your quilt will cost to be quilted : length x width x .03cents. You can just bring your quilt in with batting and backing 4" larger around or send an email to me at info@fabricshelf.ca

This is the second of quilts that Charlotte Little brought in have quilted by us. This particular quilt is done with an Asian theme. The rich colours worked just perfect in her pattern and the balance of the fabrics again was just spot on!
Lori Dewart did the quilting on this one as well with a gorgeous computer pattern called Asian Lily. Charlotte was well pleased with the outcome of her quilt and I can certainly see why. It is stunning!
Thank you to Charlotte for sharing with all of us!

New Island Batiks are in!

The long awaited Island Batiks are now in the building. We received 2 different lines in with the larger being the "Deco Revival" line in greens, purples, taupes and creams. this is a gorgeous line of fabrics which I think I have at least a dozen projects in mind. Now the time to get them done? hmmmmmm
The second line in is called "Sunset Plume" in the most yummy tones of magenta, greens and golds. Just so scrumptious. Love love and more love this fabric line. The richness is great and wait until you feel it.
I get so excited I just don't even know where to start! It is all so wonderful!

Celebration Tree Skirt Class

We have a new class to announce coming this September 18, 19 and 20th. This class is taught by Anne Hall, a CI for Quiltworx so you know that you are getting topnotch instruction and help.
You will have opportunity to custom design your own tree skirt with your colour choices. Custom colourways if ordered at time of booking UP TO 18th August. You will get to see the colourway before the kit is cut so that you can tweak it. It would be helpful if you choose ONE focus fabric that you would like in your quilt from Heather’s store. Preferably batiks due to some skinny points, but they don’t have to be. You can also opt to make a smaller tree skirt as this one is quilt large, 60". Just let us know what you want and we will do our best to accommodate.
The cost of the class is $295 for all three days and includes the pattern with foundation papers. Times are 9:30 to 5 each day.
You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or you can sign up on the website at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Canning Season by Free Spirit Fabrics

Take a look at this great jar quilt. I am sure most of you have seen lots of jar quilts out there. This one is a bit different in the size and shape of the jars. Also notice the fabric choices! Now why didn't I think of that?
Use some of you scraps of fabulous fabrics that are just too pretty to put in the garbage. You can use the smallest pieces in the jar lids. I would love to see some of these quilts in the shop just for fun and inspiration. Hint hint......

Nancy's Notions

You may have heard that changes happened with Nancy's Notions since the passing of Nancy Zieman. Missouri Star Quilt co. has acquired Nancy's Notions since then and relocated it to Hamilton Missouri.
I have been a fan of Nancy's Notions for 30 years now. Their TV program was how I learned to sew and quilt. She was an amazing teacher and I think her greatest gift was that she made you believe in yourself!
