News Hot Off the Shelf

Hero of the Week

kimberlea-prince-george-fires-2

Our heroes of the week are the forest fire workers doing all they can to get this horrific situation under control. Every day they are putting their lives on the line to protect lives and property. B.C. is in a state of emergency right now due to the fires. There are no words to thank you all enough.

The photo shown is taken by Kimberlea Stuparyk in Prince George at 7:45 am today! One hour later it was too black to take a picture. Unbelievable!

Please everyone, listen for updates on volunteering, helping out where you can. I don't have much information on that front yet, so if anyone has any news please pass it on. In the meantime, give thanks for all the fire workers out there. They are truly heroes in every sense of the word.

Five Star Runner

stars by Linda

Very exciting news for everyone! One of my best friends and fellow quilting addicts from Haida Gwaii is coming down to teach a class here at the shop!

Linda Rowbotham will be here September 14 and 15th to teach a class using a very cool technique to make these gorgeous table runners. This is not paper pieced. It is a slice and insert method! You literally cannot make a mistake!! Have to love that!

You can make as many stars as you wish. In the sample there are 5 and we will have samples in the shop. Because she lives on the ocean Linda has gone with a beach theme in colours. You could choose any colour you like. Night sky? Bright fun colours? Batiks or regular cottons? The world is your oyster ladies!

Cost of the class is $45 and is a one day class so choose your day and come on in to the shop for this great class. Pattern is included. Please note - the tax is included in the price on the Website : http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Elaine Magnus

lillian-dunbar-elaine-magnus-007

Elaine Magnus was in on Thursday morning to quilt this darling little crib quilt.

She used a Minky for the Giraffe and cottons and flannels for the rest. The Millie long arm machine just purred along and had the project done in an hour and a half!

I love the quilt, Elaine, and it is always fun when you are in to quilt. See you soon with your next project!

Lillian Dunbar

  lillian-dunbar-elaine-magnus-002

Lillian Dunbar was in to show us her latest creation!

Lillian has made this one for herself and I just know she is going to have many years of enjoyment from this.  Lillian loves the Asian look so I was not surprised to see an Oriental look to the quilt.

The backing on the quilt is minky and Val McDougall did the quilting. Just a gorgeous job from start to finish, ladies.

Thank you to you both for sharing with us all.

Our oops!!!

beginning August 010

Margaret Stewart-Smith was in last week to show us her Desert Sky which I had erroneously stated that Margaret did the quilting.

Turns out it was Linda King that did the amazing quilting. I do apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Paulette Eccleston

  paulette-eccleston-free-motion-august

Paulette Eccleston was in to long arm quilt this beauty of a quilt. It is a donation quilt so Paulette felt free to experiment on this one.

She has free motion quilted on the quilt with great results. Using Glide thread she didn't have to worry about thread breakage and could concentrate on the design of her project!

Congratulations, Paulette, on moving to the next step on your long arm quilting journey!
