Meet Your Neighbour

This week I would like you to meet Shirley Denison. If you want to meet one of the most friendly, giving and all around nice quilter then Shirley is your girl!

Shirley was born in Peace River, Alberta. I did not realize that there is a town in northern Alberta called Peace River and an area in BC called Peace River. Hmmmmm. Anyway she was raised in the area, attending school with Math and English being her favourite subjects. There was no Home Ec course offered in her little school, but Shirley was sewing by the time she was in her teen. Her mother was a prolific garment sewer and taught Shirley to sew her own clothes.

Shirley met her future husband in northern Alberta. Her husband had family in Kamloops so it was not a stretch for them to settle here in 1968. Shirley began work at the Telephone offices and that is where she met Shirley Krahn, her best friend.

The 2 Shirleys are working downtown at the telephone office and while on a walk during lunch hour they passed by Fabric House. Seeing all the gorgeous quilts on display they decided that they should make a quilt some day. Back to work they go, and by the end of the shift Shirley Krahn had them both signed up for a class with Dianne Jansen at the Fabric House. The rest is history!

Shirley comes in to visit with her little dog, Chaplin who is just the cutest little guy ever! Chaplin and Shirley are a real team and if you see one you are bound to see the other. Give then a "Hello" when you see them and tell them you met them on the newsletter!

RIH Donation Quilt

Those very talented ladies of the RIH Auxiliary Quilters created a Whole Cloth quilt , [ queen size ] to be raffled off. There is bonus bed/table runner as well.

With 580 hours of hand stitching in the quilt it is a true heirloom. I will definitly be purchasing some tickets at $2 each. The money raised is used in different departments of the hospital for equipment.

Joni Newman - Designer!

This is super exciting news for everyone! Joni Newman, a designer for Northcott fabrics for many years now is coming to our shop in September to hold a Trunk Show and then classes in October!!

Her techniques are very unique and her artistry is incredible! We do have 5 of her wall hangings up in the shop but she has over 300 quilts in her collection! Joni will be showing pieced and appliqued quilts.

The date of the Trunk show is Friday September 20 at 2 pm or Sunday September 22 at 11 am. Friday  is in the afternoon at 2pm and Sunday is in the morning at 11 am. The cost is $5 for the show........but you get the $5 back when you purchase  in the shop that day!

Tin Lizzie Long Arm for Sale!

For sale before end August. Tin Lizzie on Gracie - (very sturdy )frame, 10 foot table capable of quilting king size quilts. Table is 20 inches wide.
Has a new laser light and also has an overhead lamp. Has a new tension assembly.
I found by using “glide thread” no shredding or thread breakage, sews very well, nice even stitches also. Upon clarifying the age of the machine -it is 8 years old.
Asking $7000. No taxes. Will set up and deliver if not too far out of Kamloops.
