Here we go again

masks required ‌

Due to rising numbers in the Covid cases in the Interior we have been mandated by the Provincial Government that masks are now mandatory.

Masks must be worn at all times in the shop. The numbers allowed in the shop stay the same ....limit of 10.... and we have the hand sanitizing stations still at the door and at the till.

We ask for everyone to be respectful and considerate towards all small and large businesses out there. Together, with kindness and calmness we will get through this. Thank you.

Charlotte Wagner

charlotte-wagner-halloween-quilt ‌

Charlotte Wagner brought in her fabulous Halloween quilt starring the Ghastlies fabrics by Michael Miller for us to quilt for her. We couldn't wait to get our hands on this one!

The perfect computer pattern is spider webs and spiders and yes it really was perfect! Charlotte was properly thrilled with it!

Lori Dewart did the quilting on this one and it was just a treat to work on. Great work with Charlotte piecing and Lori long arming!

Thank you to Charlotte for sharing with everyone!

Are you wanting to get some of your projects quilted? We are at a week to a week and half turnaround. To get an estimate of what your quilt will cost to be quilted :
length x width x .03cents. You can just bring your quilt in with batting and backing 4" larger around or send an email to me at info@fabricshelf.ca

Amrita Ollek.

amrita-ollek-baby-quilt ‌

Amrita Ollek was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous happy little baby quilt. Her choice of colours and pattern is perfect!

We have watched as Amrita's skills have grown over time to where the pieces of the quilt are becoming smaller and more precise every time. Just a beautiful job of a very happy charming baby quilt.

Amrita long armed using the computer program with a pattern called Bossa Nova and of course Glide thread. Bill was the helper on this one and I find they make a great team on a quilt.

Thank you to Amrita for sharing your talents and your quilt journey with us all!

Sherri Belcham was in to show us her western shirt she made using fabrics from the Ophelia line of fabrics. Sherri is a highly skilled sewist and her creations are one of a kind.

This one is already sold as is no surprise to us when we saw it. Just loved the fabrics and placement of the colours and prints. The stitching is beautifully done with precise stitching and perfect finishing.

I find it so interesting to see what others have found to do with the quilting cotton fabrics. Well done Sherri!

Thank you  so much Sherri for taking the time to bring the shirt in to show us your talents!

Celebration Tree Skirt Class

.
celebration tree skirt ‌

We have a new class to announce coming this September 18, 19 and 20th. This class is taught by Anne Hall, a CI for Quiltworx so you know that you are getting topnotch instruction and help.

You will have opportunity to custom design your own tree skirt with your colour choices.

Custom colourways if ordered at time of booking UP TO 18th August.  You will get to see the colourway before the kit is cut so that you can tweak it.  It would be helpful if you choose ONE focus fabric that you would like in your quilt from Heather’s store.  Preferably batiks due to some skinny points, but they don’t have to be.

You can also opt to make a smaller tree skirt as this one is quilt large, 60". Just let us know what you want and we will do our best to accommodate.

The cost of the class is $295 for all three days and includes the pattern with foundation papers. Times are 9:30 to 5 each day.

You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or you can sign up on the website at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Quilts for Fire Victims 2021

Lytton sunday 4 ‌

The fire situation has settled to a large extent now, finally. Was certainly a bit of a roller coaster ride for the summer. I think this will be a summer to remember for sure!

Quilts have been collected at Katja's Quilt Shop and ourselves for the evacuees. Marg Johnson and Cheryl Dyck did an amazing job of getting the quilts out to the people wherever they were evacuated to. Thank you so much to you both.

And now a huge thank you to everyone who sent or brought quilts in. Almost 2000 people from Lytton have received a quilt hug thanks to you all. Pretty remarkable when you can step up to the plate and send your love and hugs in your own time of stress. Thank you all so very much.

At this time we are going to start winding things down. Well done to you all and you can be so proud of what you have accomplished.

Dona Kobyashi makes it happen!

baby-quilt-from-duncan ‌

Dona Kobyashi was in the other day with 8 more quilts for the Lytton evacuees. These ones came from Vancouver Island and let me tell you...my jaw hit the floor when I saw them! They are just incredible!

I have included a message from Dona that she sent explaining the story of these quilts. Note...Dona was the facilitator, not the quilter. Thank you Dona!

"At a recent Rotary Club of Kamloops West meeting, I mentioned that my PEO Chapter, BC-AC, plus a few friends, has undertaken the task of contributing quilts to the evacuees from the 2021 wildfires.  One of our newer members called her mother on the Island to see if she could ccontribute a quilt.  Her mother has a history of donating quilts to various causes.  She sent 8 beautiful baby and lap quilts to me to include in the contribution from my PEO and Friends group.  What a generous lady!"

What on earth is a P.E.O.? I asked the same thing and here is the answer she
sent me:

The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a U.S.-based international women's organization of about 230,000 members, with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. The Sisterhood is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, with chapters throughout the United States and Canada.

Thank you very much, Dona and the sewer on Vancouver Island! You are just amazing!

A Splash of Color.

a-splash-of-color-splash-of-fall-runner ‌

I have come across a great table runner pattern for this fall. The quilt should go together pretty darn quick as it is neutral toned half square triangles for the background with some gorgeous toned leaves scattered at each end.

Let the fabrics do the work for you. Just make sure you have good contrast between the background the leaves. The shown pattern is done in batiks but you can use regular cotton if you wish. I think it will look good either way.

Pattern is a free download from Andover and does include the applique shapes for the leaves. Click for your free pattern https://www.andoverfabrics.com/Quilts/A%20Splash%20of%20Color%20-%20Splash%20of%20Fall%20Runner.pdf
