Shirley Chizma

Shirley Chizma came in to longarm quilt her gorgeous France themed lap quilt. she purchased the fabrics years ago when we had first moved into the last location. That has to be at least 9 years ago! Nice to see those fabrics that are lurking in the sewing room being used and are just as lovely today as then!
the edge to edge digital design is called Wave on Wave and Glide thread Cool Mint was used for the top of the quilt. Leslie Ford was the helper on this one, but Shirley is rapidly becoming very competent at using the longarm on her own.
Thank you to Shirley for letting us share your quilt journey

Tanya Knippleberg

Tanya came in to long arm quilt her gorgeous Bowtie Quilt. Isn't it amazing how a very traditional block done in updated fabrics and design just adds so much more to the outcome? Tanya does a fabulous job of her colour choices and her piecing as well!
The top thread chosen is Warm Grey 4 and the quilt was longarm quilted by our very own Lori Dewart.
Thank you to Tanya for sharing with everyone and for giving us all a glimpse as to what an older block can look like when updated!

Leslie Heppner

Leslie Heppner, quilter extraordinaire, brought her stunning purple kaleidoscope quilt in for us to longarm for her. We love working on Leslie's quilts as they are always so beautifully put together. Always so interesting and fun to see!
the quilt she named Japanese Stack and Whack with an edge to edge design called I Dream of Feathers. Doesn't that just sound like an amazing design? Top thread is surprisingly called Avocado! Quilted by the energizer bunny we have Leslie Ford!
Thank you Leslie for sharing and a huge thank you for being such a delightful lady every day!

Susan Vlahos

Susan Vlahos was the winner of the $50 a few months back, but due to her work schedule was not able to make it in until now. Susan happens to be our family doctor and has been amazing getting Bill through his foot episode this spring, and asked Bill to pose with her! Very cool to have a family doctor that quilts! I wonder what her stitching of wounds look like? Probably very creative! LOL
Congratulations to Susan and thank you so much for everything!

How would you spend your $50 GC? Imagine the fun!

Weekly Quilting Tip

Today's quilting tip comes from Donna Rickman. Have you ever struggled with threading a needle? Silly question, of course you have! Everyone has that needle that gives you grief.....usually when you have no patience or time!
The solution is super easy and tracks back to when the needles are made at the factory. Needles are cut 1000 at a time in groups of 2. This means that one side of the eye of the needle will be smooth and the other a titch rougher. Therefore, to solve the dilemma all you have to do is turn the needle over!! Who knew?
This is for hand needles only. The sewing machine needles need to be installed usually with the flat of the needle to the back.
Thank you so much Donna for such a easy fix to one of the most frustrating problems we quilters and sewers run into!

Sunflower Table Runner

I had the opportunity this last week to finish up this lovely Stained Glass Sunflower Tablerunner. I have always loved the look of the Stained Glass projects and when I spied this one I just had to have it. Confident Beginner rated.
Basic outline of how to make the runner: Trace out the entire design onto fusible interfacing. (Pellon 911 FF was my choice) Now trace the entire design again on the paper side of the freezer paper. Cut from the paper pieces and iron onto the fabrics. Cut the fabrics out, peel the paper off and lay them down on the interfacing. Overlap slightly and press. Use the fusible bias tape ( included in the kit) to cover all your seams. They are numbered for sequence. Layer with batting and backing. Stitch on either side of the bias tape.
That is it! You quilt it at the same time as you stitch the tape on. Use your walking foot!
The kits have been selling very well and there are only 2 left. You can find them in the shop and online at: https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/SUNFLOWER-TABLE-RUNNER-16x41-x64245165.htm
