Help Needed for Hawaii

helpwanted ‌

I am sure that all of you have heard of the horrific fires in Hawaii in the past few days. We have had one of the quilt shops, Kilauea Kreations reach out looking for donations of quilts or pillowcases.

I have copy pasted the email sent to us:

As many have heard & have been watching,

Our beloved town of Lahaina has suffered greatly this week, as well as the Maui community at large.

My heart is so broken and words can not even express all that we are feeling at this time. The amount of loss is beyond me.

Many many people have lost so much due to the horrific fire that took place this week in Maui. People have lost their homes, all their things, businesses, family members, vehicles, and so much more.

And at the same time so many more people have put their own lives at risk to help.

Mahalo to all our firefighters and first responders and local people who stopped to help.

We at Kilauea Kreations want to continue to help in the way we know and love to help. So we are reaching out to our quilting community to donate quilts or pillowcase covers to give to the families who are in need on Maui.

We as quilters and sewers know that our love, and joy, and good vibrations go into every project we work on and know that it stays with them forever.
Let's join together and share the love we hold in our hearts and hands through our quilts with the people of Maui.

We will be collecting the pillow cases at the shop here in Kamloops. You can bring them in or mail them over to us :

We are not accepting quilts at this time, due to shipping costs.

I have free pillowcase patterns available at the shop. I have been trying to get the link up for you and again running into issues. I will post as soon as I can.

In the meantime head over to the Northcott website for a pattern.
Just type in Northcott Fabrics and then go to the free patterns. I believe there is a search bar you can try putting in Believe in Magic Pillowcase.

Margaret Mitchell

margaret-mitchell-wedding-quilt ‌

Margaret Mitchell brought her amazing wedding quilt in for us to long arm quilt for her. This one is going to a niece of hers that is getting married. There were specific colours and designs that were requested and Margaret nailed it.

I really want to include Leslie Ford in this little write up as she was instrumental in having the quilt turn out so well. Lori Dewart was involved in the planning of the backing as well, I told everybody what to do and Margaret did the most amazing job of her quilt! Well done everyone!

Edge to edge design is Bossa Nova and thread is Glide thread colour Tabriz orchid.

‌

Leslie Heppner

leslie-heppner-among-the-trees ‌

Leslie Heppner brought in her fabulous lap quilt called "Among the Trees" for us to long arm for her. This is one of the cutest quilts we have seen with forest creatures peeking out from the trees. Just loved it. In fact loved it so much we have the patterns on order!

Leslie Ford did the long arm quilting using the edge to edge design Pinecone Meander with Glide thread Warm Grey 6 for the top.

Thank you to Leslie for sharing your talents with us all!

‌

Jennifer Agar

jennifer-agar-pillowcases-donation-to-hawaii ‌

Jennifer Agar was the first one in the door with pillowcases for Hawaii.
I was absolutely gobsmacked at her amazing generosity!

Thank you to Jennifer and all of you that have and continue to bring the pillowcases in.

‌

Jackie Demers

jackie-demers-kaffe-quilt-diamonds ‌

Jackie Demers brought her incredible Kaffe Fassett quilt in for us to long arm quilt for her. This project was a challenge for Jackie but she persevered and learned so much! Jackie was over the moon thrilled with how her quilt turned out.

Leslie Ford was the long arm quilter using a edge to edge design called Bubbles to keep it all very simple and let the fabric do the work. Her thread of choice on the quilt is Affinity Rainbow by Glide threads. Affinity is a variegated  thread for always a spectacular finish!

Thank you to Jackie for sharing!

‌
‌

Catherine Lukow

catherine-lukow-houses ‌

Catherine Lukow brought her beautiful little quilt in for us to long arm quilt for her. Catherine said this one was a real challenge with the layout and she had to really pay attention to where each colour was going. In a quilt in this particular pattern you have to pay close attention to the colour values in order for the roof and the sides of the house to look right. Catherine, you did amazing!

Leslie Ford, the long arm quilter, used the edge to edge design "Unravelled" with Glide thread Sterling for the top.

Thank you to Catherine for sharing your quilt journey!

‌
‌

Catherine Lukow

catherine-lukow-safari ‌

Here we have the prolific Catherine Lukow with her second quilt she brought in for us to long arm quilt. The pattern used for this design is one of the 3 Yard Quilts and it turned out so cute! The fabrics are all Safari fabrics that were on sale! How perfect is that?

Quilt finished at 44" x 58" so a nice crib size quilt. Leslie Ford quilted using the edge to edge design "Animal Crackers" and Glide thread Pistachio for the top.

Thank you to Catherine for sharing with us all!
