Lois Denil

‌

Lois Denil brought her gorgeous Deer in the wilderness quilt in for us to longarm for her. A simple design with a big wow factor in her pattern and colours!

Lois chose Deer, Moose and Pine digital design to finish her quilt. Top thread is Glide Sienna which adds a warm brown tone and shows up very well on the quilt. Quilted by Leslie Ford.

Danielle Mader

Danielle Mader was back to longarm quilt her gorgeous scrappy quilt with fabrics from her stash as well as some treasured fabrics from her mom. What a lovely way to saunter down memory lane!

Finishing at 88 X 88  her quilt called Pineapple Blossom is one that Danielle is keeping for herself. Breath of the Gods digital E2E is the quilt design chosen.  Top thread is Glide Marine. Leslie ford started out helping her and then Bill showed up to help her finish.

Well done to all of you and thank you Danielle so much for sharing your story with us all!

Kim Thompson

Kim Thompson came in to show us her jaw dropping Awesome Ocean quilt. This is only the 3rd quilt Kim has created so this is a double wow for amazing!

Kim purchased the Elizabeth Hartmann quilt kit here at the shop and worked super hard to get the piecing done. Carole Anne Gardener did  the longarming and it is just gorgeous!

There is no applique on this quilt. All the characters are created with connector corners. A lot of connector corners. Fabrics are all by Kona Cottons.

Weekly Quilting Tip

This week's quilting tip is do with the ongoing question Do I need to prewash my fabric? Years ago while working in a fabric shop, I was sewing a lot of samples and asked my manager what do I do about prewashing? She gave me the best piece of advice ever....whatever you will do with it after do it before.

I don't prewash fabrics for wallhangings and other items that I am not planning on throwing in the washing machine. Something like a baby quilt or placemat set I would prewash. Made such perfect sense!

When it comes to colour running I do prewash especially with deep colours such as reds, black, navy and dark greens. If unsure test it first.

I have found that the best way to ensure no colour run after making the project is to put your fabric in the tub or sink with Blue Dawn dish detergent. Let it soak, swish it around and then run it under a tap of warm water until it runs clear. You can buy colour catchers, but I often don't have them in the house and I always have the Blue Dawn dish detergent. Works like a charm every time!

Sewing Machine Repair

Tammy and Hector Symes will be resuming the machine servicing in January. Have your machines here by end of day January 3rd for fast turnaround and excellent service on your machine!

Bill will bring your machine over to Salmon Arm at no additional cost as he is over every week to see his step mom who is in care. If the stars align you would get your machine back the next day, or at the latest the following week.

Once we start to get enough machines in, Hector and Tammy will come to Kamloops to do the machine servicing on site that day! Wouldn't that be fantastic?

Scissor Sharpening

‌

Scissor Sharpening by Wicked Edge will resume in January. .

We have discovered a fellow in town, Rick Walker, a fully certified, scissor sharpener who will come and sharpen your scissors here at the shop.

Rick comes with 40 years of experience and does a great job! He will even sharpen pinking shears, grooming shears and more.
You can phone me at 250-376-7630 or  email me as well to let me know how many scissors are coming.

Cost is $10 a pair.

Just a side note from us:  He sharpened our batting scissors and did amazing! They are like brand new scissors!
