Whale Song

As you may have heard we had a ridiculous amount of fabric come in to the shop this week. One of the lines is called Whale Song.
This is a large line of fabrics including a panel for making a tote bag. The fabric for the tote bag is a canvas weight. The instructions have you make as an unlined bag but I would make it as a lined bag.
We do not have it up on the web site yet as we are cutting kits for it first. Below is a photo of the kit we are doing and if you are interested please shoot me an email and I will put you on the list. info@fabricshelf.ca

Falcon Ridge Ridge

Another beautiful line of fabrics we had come in is called Falcon Ridge. Starting with a panel you build it out to make an incredible wall or lap size quilt.
The fabrics are in the neutral tones of creams, greys, blacks, browns and hints of gold. If you are looking for a confident beginner rated quilt with a big statement this may be the one for you! Again, we do not have it up on the website as we are kitting first. Will be up by the middle of next week.
Photo of the pattern is below. If interested in the kit let us know and we will let you know as soon as they are ready. info@fabricshelf.ca

Morning Blossom

Now for something that is out on the shelves and up on the website. Morning Blossom is a amazing line of fabrics from Nothcott.
Gorgeous big and beautiful florals with butterflies and french writings on some. There is even a tote bag panel included made from a canvas. Again the instructions are for an unlined bag but I would line mine. there is also an apron panel included with instructions for a lined or unlined apron.
This a fairly large line of fabrics with everything from tonals to border stripes. I have no pattern for it but will be looking for something to really show off those deep rich reds, yellows, oranges and greens. Pretty sure some of this is going home today with me!

Lois Denis brought her gorgeous "Gone Fishing" quilt in for us to long arm. A simple design but so effective! With simple 4 patch blocks and a focus print she has created a cozy bright and warm quilt.
The digital design chosen is called Fish in the Sea with Glide thread Warm Grey 6 for the top thread. Leslie Ford is the longarmer on this one.
Thank you to Lois for sharing with us and showing how amazing a simple design can be!

Islay Oatway

Islay Oatway brought her incredible Hexagon quilt in for us to longarm for her. Her colours and balance of the values is perfect! I love the fabrics and love the layout! The colours make me think of our local area of high desert.
The digital design chosen is called Time Warp and very interesting that the design was laid out to go from side to side creating a movement of wind. At least that is what I see. Top thread is Glide Pistachio with Leslie Ford doing the longarming.
Thank you to Islay for sharing with everyone! You are an amazing quilt artist!

Cheryl Sebastion brought her oh so pretty Aqua tiles with Black frames in for us to quilt for her. The black really makes the aqua prints work together to create a piece of art. A beautiful blend of fabrics and the border does a great job of pulling all the centre to the outside.
The digital design chosen is Flirtacious and the top thread is Glide Sea Green. Leslie Ford is the long armer on the quilt for a wonderful finish!
Thank you to Cheryl for sharing your quilt with us all! Love the colours and the layout is perfect!

The digital design chosen is Feathers with a Twist and top thread is Glide Cool Mint. Leslie Ford is the longarmer on the quilt and as always did a great job of really bringing the quilt to life!

Carlina Stewart

Carlina came in to long arm quilt her jaw dropping beautiful quilt all in Tilda fabrics. The idea behind this one is that the pattern is all housecoats in vintage florals. To really make the quilt even more fantastic she has chosen a Fireside backing to have it look lioke a house coat! Photo below of the backing.
The quilt was longarmed by Carlina with help from the always fabulous Leslie Ford using a design called Asian Lily. Top thread is Glide thread Mocha.
Below is a photo of the back of the quilt. Fireside backing shows the quilting design beautifully. As a side note we carry Fireside now so you also check it out on the web and in the shop https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/FIRESIDE---OCEAN-SPRAY-x67271167.htm

Weekly Quilting Tip

Panels can be a royal pain sometimes with being wonky. Trying to get them straight can be challenging and therefore I was tickled pink to see an article on the Northcott site for help dealing with them.
I may have posted this before and if so I apologize but hopefully you get an opportunity to read and try the suggestions out.
Check out the link for a short tutorial on how to deal with those gorgeous but can be problematic panels. https://www.northcott.com/resourcepdf/TipoftheMonth-January2017.pdf
