Update on Bill and the Long Arm

Bill with computer

Bill continues to heal well, and we are hoping he can comeoff the vacuum pump by the end of February. It will continue to be his dancing partner for a while yet. As a dancing partner it is very slender but gurgles endlessly. That is not like me at all.

Thank you so much for all your offers to help and caring for him. Warms those cockles in my heart!

We are  opening up the long arm program more in February and March with a few times a week for customers to come in to long arm their own quilts. You will have to work as Bill can't be on his feet for too long of a time and we are so appreciative of your understanding.

If you would like to come in to long arm your own quilt let us know and we can schedule you in. We are taking appointments for February forward. Give us a call at 250-376-7630

In the meantime Lori Dewart is  quilting people's quilts so please keep bringing them in to be quilted.
We have a fast turnaround with loads of gorgeous edge to edge designs to choose from.

Thank you so much to everyone for their patience and understanding as we muddle our way through this situation.

Anne Hall

anne-hall-butterfly-garden-2

Anne Hall was down to quilt her gorgeous quilt on our APQS machine using the computer.

This one is just so spring looking, fresh and pretty! Anne thought it looked a bit princessy...but that is not a problem in my world!

The pattern of the quilt is called Butterfly Garden by Jaqueline de Jonge. The quilting design is called Lotus Flower by Amy Butler. The design is quite dense but it is gorgeous! I am putting that one on my Frozen Fountain Quilt. Thread choice was a soft  Apricot Glide thread which was beautiful on the entire quilt.

If you would like to see our Glide thread selection you can check them out on line ahttp://www.fabricshelf.ca

It was a wonderful action packed day and a half that she was down to see us and if you want to see her in action head on over to our facebook page for the video of Anne when the new fabric came in https://www.facebook.com/HeathersFabricShelf
Thank you to Anne for coming in and especially thank  you for staying at the house with us, sharing the wine, chips and Downton Abbey! Good times indeed!

Jaunita Hagerty

jaunita-haggarty

Jaunita Hagerty brought her very first quilt in for us to quilt for her.

First though she came in looking for fabrics. Was a tad challenging as this is her first quilt and she had no pattern. So she gave a pretty good explanation as to what she wanted and away we went.

The fabrics were from Diane's out in Pritchard and our shop. She had the Embroidery done for her but all the rest was her creation! Unbelieveable!

She took all her fabrics home and proceeded to draw and draft and sew it all together. The quilt is for her son who is getting married at the end of August. The bride is Polish and the groom is from Newfoundland,so she wanted something that would blend the two cultures. The colours, the friendship stars, the mountains and the whole quilt just were so perfect!

She brought the finished top in to be quilted by us, and then came choosing the quilt design. She chose the Celtic Knot edge to edge design to go with the groom's Irish heritage! Lori Dewart did the quilting and it is just gorgeous. I have to say there was almost tears on this one!

Thank you to Jaunita for letting us be a part of your quilt story! This one was so special!

Congratulations Jaunita on a very special quilt and welcome to the Quilt community!

Mary Jane Reid

mary-jane-butterflies-2

Mary Jane Reid was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous little Butterfly quilt. She has chosen to use the computer again as she has more choice in her design. This was a new one with stars and swirls around dancing butterflies and was just perfect!

I think one of the best parts of this quilt is that she was able to work almost completely from her stash. Now of course, that does not mean that her stash has gone down much. LOL

Thank you to Mary Jane for bringing your quilt in and being such a big part of our shop!

Jennifer Agar

jennifer-agar

Jennifer Agar brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her using the computer. Lori Dewart did the quilting using a edge to edge design with swirls and pumpkins on it.

The backing was an orange Fireside which really showed up the quilting. When using Fireside or Minky you don't see the thread so much as you have the most amazing textures!

Well done Jennifer and Lori on this fabulous little project! Jennifer says she is a seasonal quilter and loves to make quilts that signify the current season so we are excited to see what she brings in next!

Remember that if you would like us to quilt your quilt for you that our price is .03 cents a square inch. Turnaround is very fast .... usually within a week or so. Give us a call at 250-376-7630 or just bring your project in and we will get you all set up.

Tanya Knippelberg

tanya-kippelberg

Tanya Knippelberg was in to learn to use our APQS long arm machine. She tried out the drive it yourself and said....I want the computer! So Bill obliged and had her up and going in no time.

Tanya's project is called Tessa's and is gorgeous! This is only her 4th quilt with all those bias edges she persevered and got through with a great quilt at the end! She did a very good job of the pressing and stitching all around the edges.

Thank you to Tanya for sharing your creativity and enthusiasm with us all!

Primavera

primavera

Great excitement in the shop on Thursday as another box of fabric arrived from Northcott. The line is called Primavera and is just gorgeous!

The colours are in teals, pinks, creams and a splash of yellow. A bit more modern in design and I can see this in quilts of all sizes and it bags it would be spectacular!

Check them out in the shop or on line at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Contest Again!

contest-2

We have another contest for everyone. We have a customer who is cleaning out her sewing area and thought it would be fun to have a bit of a give away! This is just for fun and the prize is you get all the finished blocks and pieces to make more!

I can give you a bit of a teaser...it is enough to make a lap size quilt with the finished blocks using a sashing. The other pieces are all precut and ready to assemble.

We just need your guess for the number of finished blocks!

Contest starts Saturday, February 20 and ends Saturday March 6th.

Get your guesses in as to how many finished Hope blocks are in the pile shown.

Send them in to my email at the shop http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Potholders using Insul-Bright

potholder-info

Insul-Bright is back in the shop and this is just the best product for pot holders and hot mats on your table.

Use two layers of Insul-Bright to make your potholders extra heat-resistant. The Insul-Bright product directions state that it doesn't matter which side faces out, but I always place the two metallic sides facing the outsides of the potholders. I will alos place a layer of cotton batting in between the insul bright for extra protection.
