Meet Your Neighbour

022-2

This week I would like you all to meet Colleen Gatehouse, a member of the Red Hat Society, a quilter, a dog lover and just a super person!

Colleen was born in Vancouver. Her father worked construction and her mom did not want to be a "grass widow" so the family moved with the dad to wherever the work took him.
At the age of 14 Colleen lost her dad to a work place accident. Mom and the kids moved back to Vancouver where they settled. Colleen completed her high school and went on to business school. one of her first jobs was working for her Uncle who owned  a Vancouver Magazine company. From there she moved over to banking and spent the rest of her career working in the Credit Union and the Bank of Montreal.

After retirement Colleen was looking for something to get involved with. Quilting seemed like fun and the rest is history! For Colleen it is the satisfaction is making something unique and with her own creativity that is passion. She adds that the social part is also huge for her....and while you at a quilting class having fun with friends....you aren't doing housework! Bonus!

Thank you Colleen for sharing a bit about yourself with us all! We love having you come in to the shop and we are so blessed to count you as a friend!

Diana Hewins

  019

Diana Hewins made her very first paper pieced project last fall with Anne Hall. Quilt is called "Fractured Star" by Quiltworx.

Diana did a gorgeous job of the piecing and the quilting! She used a fairly simple panto so as to not detract from the quilt, and Glide thread in a lovely brilliant blue.

Great work Diana and thank you for sharing with us all!

Donna Rickman

003-5

Donna Rickman was in to take a class on making this adorable snowman wallhanging. The pattern used is by Happy Hollow with the Chunky buttons for accents. The method used involves gridded interfacing and lots of squares.

We all had a ton of fun in the class and look forward to teaching another Happy Hollow design class soon.

Your snowmen are so cute Donna! Thank you for the day!

Barb Hollingshead

  012-3

Barb Hollingshead was in to long arm quilt her "Desert Sky" quilt she made last year! Barb had won the fat quarters needed at Anne Hall's trunk show here at the shop. She then took the class last February.

Quiltworx patterns are amazing in their designs and creativity! Barb, you did an amazing job on your project!

Quilt Show April 27/28th, 2019

quilt show

Just getting the word out early for everyone. We are having our quilt show this year April 27/28th.

As always the quilt show will be right here in the Brock Shopping Center, in Kamloops, BC.

Our quilt show costs nothing to enter a quilt and everyone is welcome. If you can let us know how big your quilt is that is helpful for arrangement of the quilt racks.

We would love to see what you have been working on currently or in the past. The quilts shown are modern, antique, traditional and can be bed quilts, bags, clothing, runners and placemats or anything else that you have made from fabrics.

Entry to see the show is by donation to offset the costs and proceeds go to charity. I am cracking my whip, ladies, so you can get your quilts in!

Liz Fedato

  007-5

Liz Fedato was in to quilt her awesome quilt she made using all batiks. The pattern is called Fruit Salad by Betty Oswell of Someday is Today patterns.

Don't you just love those warm summer colours in the quilt? Liz used the bumpity panto and glide thread for perfect results!

I have posted Liz's quilt on our facebook page as a before and after picture. The quilt just comes alive when quilted!

Thank you Liz for sharing your day with us.

Paulette Eccleston

018-2

Paulette was in to long arm her Offset Log Cabin quilt! Working from what she has in her stash she always pulls off the most incredible projects. And she wears great red shoes....LOL

To achieve the rounded look to the blocks, Paulette used narrower strips on one side of the block than the other. What a very cool way to get a completely different look!

Thanks to Paulette for sharing our day!
