relax-we-got-5c6e32

All of us at the Shelf want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! We just know that it is going to be a better year....granted the bar isn't very high but still it will be better!

We are trying very hard to make this a awesome year with loads of new product [yeah!] , news and of course good times....even if they are virtual! All small businesses have had to change their way of doing business to some degree in order to stay alive and we are so appreciative of you having patience as we navigate all the new ways of doing things.

Onward and upward! We got this!

Sewing Machine Servicing

sewing machine repair

As you may know Tammy and Hector are now coming up every Wednesday to pick up machines to take back to work on in Kelowna. The machines are returned the following Wednesday.

We appreciate your consideration for their health and well being. Hopefully this will all settle and things can go back to the way they were. Miss those Italian dinners with them every time they came up!

Same great service, same great prices and the same great people just a week wait for your machine. You can drop your machine off anytime at the shop, just let us know so we can let them know how many machines they are picking up.  Call us at 250-376-7630

Spring Retreat on hold!

cancellation-thompson-spring-inn

Anne Hall and I were hoping to host another retreat out at South Thompson Inn in March but we are cancelling this event due to the provincial protocols.

We were both really sad to have to do this, but again it is out of our hands.
The fall retreat is still a go. The fall retreat is full and we will update you if we have any further changes.

Did you know you may be on TV?

img_9104

One of the new things we have in the shop is we have a large TV on display and are loading photos of customers with their quilts! It is like having a Quilt Show, just not in a venue with booths.

We have set up a couple of chairs for you to sit and enjoy the entertainment if you like or just have a gander as you are shopping. Some of the photos go back a few years so it was almost a bit of a guessing game as to names of people and their quilts. I apologize for any mistakes I may have made in the process.

It is truly one of the most exciting things we have introduced into the shop and is really fun to see everyone! Come on down for a peek!

Temporary Changes to the Long Arm Program

bill-with-computer

As you may know Bill [ AKA The Long Arm of the law in the Long arm Department] has had surgery just before Christmas for the removal of his big toe and a bit into the foot.
He is healing well and getting around better every day.

We have had to close the classes  part of the long arm and restrict the number of customers coming in to long arm their own quilts.

We are still accepting quilts to be quilted and really are so appreciative of the ones coming in to keep us going until things get back to some form of normal.

Lori Dewart is able to quilt customer quilts as well as take the occasional customer on the long arm. As Bill is becoming a bit more mobile he is able to help out more in the long arm area but we do ask for patience and understanding as we navigate this all.

We have no openings for quilting your own quilt left in January, but are open to bookings in February.

You can bring your quilt tops in anytime and we will get you all signed up and ready to go. If you would like to book to do your own quilt give us a call at 250-376-7630 and we will schedule you in.

Brenda Bliss

Brenda bliss Let it snow

Brenda Bliss was in to quilt this lovely little Winter quilt before the holidays.

Brenda opted to use the computer and had perfect results with using Glide thread and a lovely snowflake pattern.

Thank you to Brenda for sharing your creativity with us all!

Debbie Ulinder

debbie-ulinder-memories-and-wallhanging

Debbie Ulinder was in to long arm quilt these two beauties of projects! They were Christmas presents and I am sure that there are some pretty happy recipients!

The larger quilt is made using photo images of people and memories which as you know, just makes an incredible gift! The smaller one is lap or wallhanging size.

I still find it so incredible that you can quilt two quilts in one day! And they both turned out gorgeous! Debbie used a computer program on this one for perfect results.

Thank you Debbie for a fun day!

Devona Hay

devona-hay-christmas-eve

Devona Hay was in to show us her wall hanging she made using a small panel. By picking up the colours and carrying them to the outside borders she achieved a beautiful project that she is sure to hang every year!

Thank you to Devona for giving us all more ideas on what to do with those panel!

Diana Hewins

diana-hewins-gnomes-patchwork

Diana Hewins also was in to long arm quilt her darling Gnomes patchwork quilt. Don't you just love the coziness of this one? Diana used a computer program on this one.

Take a look through your stash and see if you can come up with some squares to sew into a patchwork design. It is amazingly simple but very effective project!

Thank you to Diana for a wonderful morning spent with you and sharing ideas!

December Winner!

donna-youds-december-winner

Donna Youds was the winner of the December Gift Certificate and I think you can see that she is just a titch excited!

Donna has $75 to spend in the shop now and just has to try to narrow it down a bit. Actually quite a bit, but that is okay. We don't judge! LOL

Every time you shop at the store and purchase regular priced items your name is entered in a draw for a gift certificate at the end of each month! Imagine if you won....what would you purchase?

Congratulations to Donna on your prize!

Kathy Elliott

kathy-elliott-cardinals

Kathy Elliott is the Pin up girl posed quilter in front of her lovely traditional Christmas Cardinal quilt.

Can you believe Kathy chose to custom quilt this one herself? She did a great job of accenting all the blocks and was very happy with the results!

Thank you to Kathy for sharing your creativity with us all!

Devona Hay

Devona Hay also brought in her gorgeous Birch Tree quilt to show us how it turned out. I would say "Pretty darn wonderful!"

Devona worked from a kit with Northcott fabrics to achieve this great quilt. Lots of half square triangles to give the borders a bit of a lift and some perfect fabrics to set it all off. Lap sized for on the couch or hang it on the wall!

Thank you to Devona for some awesome ideas of what we can do with a panel!

Laura Napier

laura-napier-baby-quilt

Laura Napier was in to quilt 3 different projects. She used the computer program for perfect result in the same or less time with no stress on the body! Gotta love that!

First up we have this darling little baby quilt in the pinks and yellows. Laura makes a lot of baby quilt and finds them great for trying out different patterns and colour combinations.

The next photo is of Laura and her awesome Christmas quilt in traditional colours but a modern design. I can just picture this one on a dark dining table!

The third photo we have is of a lap size quilt that Laura did in teal tones from Northcott. This project would be suitable for both men or women and would look great on the couch [ like mine...hint hint] or on the wall. If you look closely you can see that is actually a sampler quilt!

Thank you to Laura for showing us all that you do and encouraging us to get moving and get those projects done!

Mary Jane Reid

mary-jane-reid-christmas-trees

Mary Jane Reid slid in under the wire to get this one on the long arm before Christmas. She also chose to use the computer program for intricate and perfect snowflakes on her quilt. This one would be suitable for the winter as well as Christmas.

Thank you to Mary Jane for always a wonderful day when you come in!

Sylvia Chow

sylvia-chow-9-patch-chain

Sylvia Chow was another one that slid in under the Christmas wire to get this one done! Sylvia did this one with a planned palette but I can sure see this one being done scrappy.

Simple nine patch and placement is key to the pattern. I forgot to ask her what size the square were but the most common is 2 1/l2" squares. Pretty sure we all have some of those lurking in the quilt room!

Thank you to Sylvia for give us all some great ideas on using our stashes!

Back of the Chutes Kit

p148-backofthechutes_media-1

Now you too can have your very own cowboy to put anywhere you want in your home! Put him on the back of your couch, hang him on the wall or perhaps a nap sounds good?...LOL

This amazing quilt is lap sized at 50" x 68" and is kitted to include all the fabrics for the top, the binding and the pattern. We chose to back ours with a chocolate brown minky. Yes we did.....for coziness. LOL

Seriously you will love this project and find it easy to put together. The kits are priced at $99.99 and are available in the shop as well as on line at : http://www.fabricshelf.ca
