Weekly Quilting tip

This week's quilting tips is all about the dreaded Bias Binding. So many quilters twitch at the thought of making the bias binding. I agree that it can seem so confusing.
If your project has curved edges you are going to need to use a bias binding. I would not recommend using the purchased bias binding as it is not as strong and will show wear sooner. Okay so now the easiest solution is a no go you are going to have to figure out how to do this. I went searching and found a great article on 3 different methods of creating the bias binding. Very well written with great pictures to assist all of us who need the visual part as well as the written.
Check out the article and hopefully it can help you out. https://obsessivequilter.weebly.com/bias-binding-tutorial.html

New Fabrics in the Building

Bill and I were down to the coast for a few days this week. I had given him tickets to a play I wanted to see.....Fiddler on the Roof....LOL The play was fantastic and we squeezed in the time to get to one of the warehouses. By the time I was done I don't think you could have squeezed a toothpick in the car!!
High on my list was to find some First Nations prints and we hit the jackpot! We started with about 20 bolts but some are gone already. I will be reordering so stay tuned to the facebook and website.
My top 3 favourite lines were: Native Spirit Thunderbirds Shawl Dancers
You can find all of the new products in the New Section of the website: https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/New.htm
You will be able to find them in the shop and online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/New/p/LEGEND-BIRDS-FISH-CREAM-x67417700.htm

Free Pattern

This week's free pattern comes from Hoffman fabrics and it is fantastic! The picture shows it in a southwestern colour theme but you could change it up to whatever works for you!
Finished size is 77" x 80" so a twin size or large lap quilt. I t could also work as a wall quilt providing you have a empty wall space.
I would rate this one as a intermediate or a confident beginner. The instructions are very well written with colour diagrams and clear steps to follow.
Click on the link for the free pattern: file:///C:/Users/Heather/Downloads/fp_hm_1895_light_as_a_feather.pdf

Solare By Northcott

Do you have your Solare kit yet? I have been working on mine and am quite happy with how well the blocks are turning out.
I am up to Block #5 which is template done. Each month you use a different technique with support via Northcott Fabrics. The Banyan Batiks are just gorgeous to work with. I am using the Acorn Pressing pen on each seam for the crispest seams I can manage. Photo shows how far I am and hopefully next week Month #5 will be done and well onto #6.
Check out the photo below for my finished blocks.
If you are interested in the Project you can find the Solare kits in the shop and online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/iishop?form_version=2&showSearchResults=1&search_keyword=solare&image=Search
