Meet Your Neighbour

verna-miller-002

This week meet Verna Miller, one amazing woman!

Verna was born in New Westminster and grew up in Spences Bridge. She attended Residential School in Lytton. Verna grew up sewing and doing crafts due in large part to her grandmother who was happy to pass her knowledge along. At the age of 21 her Grandma taught her to quilt one of her ugliest [her words, not mine!] quilts ever. Made from a grey flannel sheet and cut up clothes she created a quilt that she still owns and treasures to this day!

Verna married a military fellow and they have lived in several different communities. Ottawa, Borden, Halifax, back to Ottawa, Victoria, Spences Bridge and now in Kamloops. Whew! In all these communities Verna joined guilds, learned from other women and honed her skills. She has had classes with Harriett Hargraves, Louise Robertson and Martha McCloskey among others.

Verna has used her knowledge to help others. Recently she taught a class on creating a "feast bag" and has in the past taught Lone Star quilt making.

Her favourite part of quilting is the choosing colours, the patterns and the challenge of creating the puzzle!

Verna, thank you for sharing with us all. You are a remarkable woman and so much appreciate having you as part of our quilting community!

Quilt Show April 27/28th

quilt-show

Just getting the word out early for everyone. We are having our quilt show this year April 27/28th. As always the quilt show will be right here in the Brock Shopping Center, in Kamloops, BC.

Our quilt show costs nothing to enter a quilt and everyone is welcome. If you can let us know how big your quilt is that is helpful for arrangement of the quilt racks.

We would love to see what you have been working on currently or in the past. The quilts shown are modern, antique, traditional and can be bed quilts, bags, clothing, runners and placemats or anything else that you have made from fabrics.

Entry to see the show is by donation to offset the costs and proceeds go to charity. I am cracking my whip, ladies, so you can get your quilts in!
