New Years Wishes

Bill, myself and all our team at the Shelf would like to wish you all the best in 2022.
We have lots of things happening and I can't wait to share with everyone. Big changes are coming to the Shelf!! Stay tuned for all the exciting things coming!
We would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support over the last year. It was a difficult year to say the least and without you coming in and giving us smiles and warm and fuzzies, I just can't imagine how difficult it would have been. Online sales keeping us going was so amazing, but most important was the caring and help from so many! We are so incredibly lucky to have such incredible customers who have stood behind us all.
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! PS that is Leanne Harrison watching the magic happen on her quilt!

Devona Hay/Karen Hay

Take a look at this gorgeous sunflower quilt two sisters collaborated on! Pieced by Karen Hay and quilted by Devona Hay who also put the binding on.
The Attic Window pattern is so useful for all those larger prints or panels as it shows them off to full advantage. Simple to do if you do a connector corner as opposed to the mitered corner. This gives the quilt an illusion of a mitered corner without the headache of getting it to lay perfect.
The connector corner way : http://www.straw.com/equilters/library/blocks/atticwindow.html
I am sure you will have loads of fun with this pattern. Thank you to Karen and Devona for sharing your quilting journey with everyone!

Sally Andrysiak

Sally Andrysiak was in to pick up her fantastic quilt she had us quilt for her.
This one is called Grassy Creek, a Mystery quilt program by Bonnie Hunter. Bonnie's quilts are scrappy and with a lot of pieces. Right up Sally's alley!
This is all from her stash which hasn't gone down a whole lot.....so Sally is embarking on another Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt and tells me she is already into it for over 1400 pieces!!!! Good lord!!!!
Leslie Ford did the quilting and it went like a dream with amazing accuracy in the piecing. Thank you to Sally for letting us share your amazing quilt and thank you to Bonnie Hunter for the incredible design!

The Mountains are Calling

New in stock is this lovely lap size quilt by One Sister called The Mountains are calling. The photo on the patterns states that they have chosen to do it in flannels but I think it would work well in regular cottons as well.
Finishes at 51" x60" to make a gorgeous lap size quilt that would look great in your living room. Easy enough to make it bigger if you like by adding borders.
The pattern comes in a booklet of 24 full colour pages of instructions so super easy to follow. Priced at $39.99 available in the shop and online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/THE-MOUNTAINS-ARE-CALLING-x61026337.htm

Trisha Mercuri

Tricia Mercuri was in to long arm quilt her huge star quilt. This is one amazing quilt with perfect colour combination and stitching.
This one was also known as the Beast! The size and the difficulty in keeping everything lined up was a challenge. Then came the quilting......oh yes the quilting. Tricia wanted a large as we could get onto the quilt. After making it bit too big and not being able to fit it all in, getting up close and friendly with Jack the Ripper, Leslie and Tricia finally got it. So yes this one is called the Beast!!!
That being said isn't it gorgeous? You should have seen the look on Leslie's face when I said I want to do one like that!!! It was priceless!
Thank you so much Tricia for sharing with us all on your great achievement on one of the most incredible quilts to come through the door. You and your sense of humour are a treasure!

Linda Rollins

Linda Rollins was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous Gingko Leaves quilt. The teals in this project are just beautiful! Fabric is from Northcott and used the Stonehenge line.
Stonehenge is one of the basic lines in the Northcott Fabric lineup. We usually have a good selection in the shop. Love the fabrics.....little fray and no colour bleed. The tones in the fabric make it easy to work with other fabrics.
The edge to edge design is called Gingko which Bill found and it is absolutely perfect! Quilted using the computer the stitching and making the gingko leaves a bit larger to stay in proportion to the size of the quilt was like the icing on the cake.
Truly a quilt that will be loved for many years to come. Thank you to Linda for sharing with us all!

Tanya Knippleberg

Tanya Knippleberg was in to long arm quilt her awesome scrappy quilt with a ton of half square triangles. Being the traditional girl that I am I just fell in love with this one. I did suggest to her that my birthday is in August and she could just leave it on my porch. I would be ok with that.
The pattern she found on the Missouri Star site. I forgot to ask what the name is but I am sure you can find it. They have so many to choose from!
The computerized design is called Diana and one of my top designs to choose. Thread choice, of course chosen with help from Bill our thread expert, is Lemon Ice. Perfect pattern with perfect stitching!
Thank you to Tanya for sharing and inspiring us all!
