Hero of the Week

sue smiling and susan at po 004
Susan R. is the Hero of the week for us this time around. Susan is the Post Office Manager across at the Shopper's Drug Mart in the Brock Shopping Center.

We are over to see her usually every day and often several times in the day. Susan is always friendly, professional and explains everything to me as to shipping options and cost. In this day of online everything it is so heart warming to deal with Susan with her smile and patience.

Remember you can mail your parcels from this outlet with little to no line ups and you get the best customer service!

Thank you Susan for helping to make our Brock Shopping Center the best neighborhood mall ever!

This was Kathy's first time on the long arm but she just nailed it. the confidence showed in her consistent speed and having the Bumpity pattern and Glide thread just made it so much easier!

Now we are on to the binding. Thank you to Kathy for always being ready to learn something new and especially for that wonderful giggle that has everyone around you giggling!

Barb Hollingshead

barb-hollingshead-001

Barb Hollingshead was in to long arm quilt this great little quilt.

She made this braid quilt using scraps that just turned out so terrific. The challenge was the moving the colours from one to the next but I think she got it just right.

Pattern is by Quilt in a Day, Eleanor Burns. Heather taught this one as a class in the spring.

Great work Barb and thank you for sharing. Your granddaughter is going to love it!

Elaine Magnus was in for her class on using the long arm at the shop yesterday! She did a great job on quilting the quilt and was through in an hour and a half....yep she was motoring along!

Loved the way the quilt turned out and she was equally thrilled. Elaine has already booked her next appointment in August. If you want to come on in to quilt your quilt or learn to use our machine, we are booking into August so give us a call  and reserve your spot. 250-376-7630

Quilting with fusibles

Today's Inside Tip - When quilting fabrics or T-Shirt quilts that also include iron-on fusible, be mindful that the needle heats up as you stitch which melts the fusible. This will result in thread breaks and skipped stitches. Here's some helpful tips:

  1.  SLOW DOWN on your stitching speed. It takes the needle longer to go through the fabric and fusible. By slowing down, you will give the needle more time to make a proper stitch.

  2. Keep some rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips nearby to clean and cool the needle. Depending on what fusible product was used, you may have to do this several times during the stitching process.

Antique Quilt 1939 - 1941

  Yellow antique name quilt 001

I posted a bit ago about an antique quilt that had come our way via Marg Spina to Diane Hewins and then to us. We have big news in regards to the quilt!

The Kamloops This Week newspaper was out to have a look at the quilt and take some pictures! Dale Bass was fascinated with the quilt and all the names involved. She laments that she has now fallen down a rabbit hole and is determined to find some history on the quilt. Keep your eye on the Kamloops This Week newspaper this week for an article on the quilt! Marg Spina would have been so thrilled to see what is happening! Pictures of the quilt were taken and I am assured that I am looking tall and skinny! LOL
