Meet Your Neighbour

This week meet Tanja Walker, a recent Kamloops resident and super keen quilter!

Tanja was born in Bavaria, Germany and emigrated to Canada at 17 years old. Her family ran restaurants in Germany but when they moved to Canada they settled 30 kms outside of Smithers on a farm. Quite a change for a young girl!

Tanja grew tired of living so far from the bright lights of Smithers so moved into town and completed her Grade 12. She then discovered her first passion which was training to become a Home Care Aide. Tanja took to it like a duck to water and truly loved every moment of helping people.

In the meantime she met her husband at 19 years old [ this would be Passion #2 ] and has been with him ever since. Raising 2 boys they created a warm and supportive family unit.

Tanja discovered sewing and quilting during her time as a Home Care Aid. This is now Passion #3!!LOL She was fascinated with the process of sewing fabrics together to create something original and beautiful! She was hooked and the collecting began. The collecting continues to this day, but her favourite is Batiks.

Tanja likes all the parts of quilting from start to finish. She approaches each project as a new adventure and is eager to learn! With her positive attitude and willingness to help others she is always a delight to have at our shop.

A new Block of the Month program has started at the shelf! We just love the rich blues and deep browns in this project. One of the most appealing aspects of this quilt is that it is suitable for young, older, male, female, weddings, graduations and more. Tooting the Horn

I am tooting my own horn this week. We have been selected as a favourite fabric store in Kamloops through Kamloops This Week Paper.  We are all pretty darn proud of this. Running a small business is a team effort and we have the best team ever!

Diana Hewins

Diana Hewins was in to long arm quilt her awesome little child's quilt. She has used prints with primary colours to add some pop!

Using a simple pattern, great fabrics and an easy panto on the quilt guaranteed fabulous results!

The same day that Diana came in to long arm the Child's quilt shown above she quilted this one as well!

This is a Hashtag pattern using In the Beginning Fabrics by Jason Yenter. His fabrics are just gorgeous whether in lights or darks, always so rich and lovely to fondle.

Diana is capable of just about any of our pantos, so really gets to have some fun when she comes in. Remember not to leave it too long between visits to long arm! Every time you come in you will become more comfortable and proficient at the quilting.

Tanja Walker

Tanja Walker was in to take the class this week to become a certified long arm quilter on our APQS machine. She was so excited to learn this and finish her quilts quickly and efficiently.

This one in the blacks, greys and whites was a perfect quilt for the class with loads of reference lines. Tanja chose an Orchid colour thread and it looked fantastic!
