Weekly Quilting Tip

This week's quilting tip comes to us courtesy of Kathy Dalgleish. Kathy very kindly sent us a list of different tips and tricks she picked up while spending her winter in Arizona.
When cutting your border fabric add a 1/4" extra and that way after it is quilted you can trim for the binding without getting caught short. How is it that I never thought of that? I always measure from the border seam out to square it up, but this makes it so much easier!
Thank you to Kathy for that great idea. I just so happen to have a project I am working on that you can be sure I will be adding the extra 1/4".
If you have any tips, tricks or ideas send them in! We would love to put them in the newsletter. info@fabricshelf.ca

Kim Thompson

Kim Thompson put her own spin on the Arctic Feathers pattern to make it her own. She expanded it to fit her bed, king size! Her colour choices and design are just spot on!
Kim is an incredible quilter with a real eye to layout and colour values. The quilt was longarmed by Carole Gardener, a superb longarmer!
Thank you for inspiring us all!

Gloria Barlow

Gloria Barlow brought 4 of her quilt flimsys in to be longarmed. Wow, she had us pretty busy! So much fun to see them turn out so lovely!
First up we have her Peek-a-Boo baby quilt. This is such a fun quilt to look at! one of the features in this quilt I really liked is the use of the plaid fabric. Must be the year of the plaid....it is everywhere!
Check out below for 3 more of Gloria's work!

Verna Miller created this stunning quilt using half square triangles and careful placement of the fabrics.A small lap quilt with much happiness in the colours and the mood of the quilt!
Verna came in to longarm the quilt using a Edge to Edge digital design called Twisted Feathers. Glide thread Military Gold was used on the top of the quilt.

Diane Langlois brought her Lover's Knot king size quilt in for us to longarm for her. The pattern is from Quilt in a Day and is simple to do but so effective! Love all those shades of blues!
The Edge to Edge design chosen is called Windswept with Glide thread Hawaiian Blue for the top.

The Edge to Edge digital design is called Bossa Nova with Glide thread Stone on the top. Quilted by Lori Dewart.

Donna Foreman was the winner of the April $50 Gift Certificate! Donna finally made it in but no worries. Her Gift Certificate was safe behind the till waiting for her! I am sure there were some quilters out there that would have been happy to look after that for her....LOL
Every purchase of regular priced product gets you an entry in the barrel each month. This does include the online orders so don't worry..you all get your chances!
What would you do with your $50 GC?

Margaret Bangen

Margaret Bangen brought her lovely Trip Around the World Quilt in for us to longarm for her. We quilted it with a gorgeous Edge to Edge Digital design called Chantilly Lace with Glide thread Silver for the top.
One of the features of this particular quilt is that there is a lot of negative space (no pattern on the fabric) so the design is really important to get it right. Leslie Ford did the longarming and just brought this one to life with awesome quilting! We see so many quilts come through our doors it is always so interesting to see what you have all done and how we can enhance your quilt with the final stitching.
Thank you to Margaret for sharing with us all!

Flower Garden

Lori Holt designed a line of fabric for Riley Blake called "Flower Garden" which is just gorgeous! A bit vintage but so fresh and springlike. The scale and colours of the fabrics are so easy to work with into quilts and all sorts of home decor. Even a dress for a little girl or perhaps yourself would be lovely!
Check them out on line or in the shop https://fabricshelf.rainadmin.com/shop/c/p/FLOWER-GARDEN-MAIN-x63946215.htm

Free Project from Riley Blake

Riley Blake who carries the Lori Holt fabrics has a free pattern called Hello Gorgeous finishing at 64" x 64". This one would be perfect in our just in Lori Holt fabric line called Flower Garden!
In the pattern it is calling for a fat quarter pack of 18 which we do have in stock as well as the coordinates to go with it. The instructions are very clearly written with a layout guide to help in the placement.
You may even choose to work from your stash on this one. Due to my inability to stay focused, I cannot pull enough fabrics of the same theme together to work. This means I will be taking some home. So tragic when you own the shop!
