Meet Your Neighbour
I am changing this part up a little by introducing you all to ...... me, Heather Fagervik,Tycoon of Heather's Fabric Shelf!
I was born in Vancouver, BC and lived for 8 years in East Vancouver off of Broadway and Rupert. We then moved to North Burnaby where I went to school graduating from Burnaby North High School. Well, actually I did not technically graduate [ biology was an issue] but I did attend the parties and had a lovely dress.
One year out of school Bill and I were married and shortly after moved to Masset on the Queen Charlotte with our first daughter Erin. While on the Charlottes we had 2 more children, Chris and Kirsten. We lived on those misty isolated islands for 7 years in all. I learned to knit and crochet while there and dabbled a bit in sewing.
We then packed up the house, the kids and the dog and off we went to Vernon. While in Vernon I thought I may have a growth......I did and he is now 34 years old. That was our youngest....Eric. That is when Heather went really heavy into knitting....everything in sight! Sweaters, bags, tea cozies you name it I knit it! Bill's work transferred us up to Kamloops in 1987 and we have been here since.
I started sewing for the kids and then the husband, then the in laws and the out laws, neighbours and the pets. Family were concerned and quite happy when I discovered quilting. I would no longer by decorating their clothing but having fun with all the projects you can quilt! Well, to say I took that to the max would be an understatement!
Having always dreamed of a fabric shop my dream came true 10 years ago with a paycheck and a credit card. Somehow we managed to grow our little shop one shelf at a time and have the time of our lives while at it. I can't imagine a better place to go to work....fondle the fabric, chat with people, decorate the store and ...... open boxes of new fabric!!! Yep.....you are jealous I am sure!
So that is a really quick little synopsis of Heather's life. Love what I do and I can't wait to see what comes next!

Lorraine Bilideau
Lorraine Bilideau was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous little baby quilts. Lately Lorraine has gone more into the embroidery side of quilting.
This is so wonderful to hear, as many of the embroidery machines end up sitting idle, mine included! Hopefully this will get some of us going with using our machines.....all the features that come with them.
Thank you to Lorraine for giving me a bit of a push to getting back into the embroidery!

Trunk Show
A trunk show? At our shop? Yes! Guess who the presenters are? YOU!! Let's have a Sunday afternoon , July 14th, showing our very first quilt! I think this would be so much fun to see what everyone made for the their first project! If you don't still have your very first one, that is okay. Just bring the earliest one you can find. No cost, just fun with some door prizes and snacks.
Just a bit of a heads up.....I have mine still after all these years, made from some stunning Walmart cotton. Looks like one of the grandkids has spilled some juice on one edge. I actually called this quilt "Missing Points" and I am sure you can guess why!
Save the date July 14th from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Give us a call at 250-376-7630 to reserve your seat!

Walk in the Park
We have a party coming to the shop on June 29 from 10 am to 5 pm! Joan Frazier is spear-heading this endeavor with her Cotton Pickers Guild.
Earlier in the year Joan had members of her guild work on a mystery quilt called "Walk in the Park" with people choosing their own colors with no idea what it would be at the end. Now the quilts are done and ready to be shown! How fun is that? I can't wait to see how different every one of the quilts is using the same pattern.
Being a bit of a Show and Tell it is open for everyone to come and see and be inspired! I will have some fun surprises during the day with snacks, give aways and more! Give us a call at 250-376-7630 so I have an idea of numbers of people coming.
Save the date of June 29th here at the shop to take a Walk in the Park where it is air conditioned and have loads of fun!

Denim and Leather BOM
A new Block of the Month program has started at the shelf! We just love the rich blues and deep browns in this project. One of the most appealing aspects of this quilt is that it is suitable for young, older, male, female, weddings, graduations and more. Not a lot of quilts tick that many boxes, but this one does it all!
Price of the program is a $25 commitment fee and then $39 per month for 7 months. You can purchase the entire kit for $279 and waive the commitment fee if that works better for you. The quilt is on display at the front of the shop so come on by and take a look!
You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or check it out on line at http://www.fabricshelf.ca
