Jacki Gallagher

Jacki Gallagher was in to purchase some more of the Glide thread for embroidery. She stays right up to date on all the latest colours using her Glide thread chart card.
As you can imagine, she quickly discovered she needed some way to display and store her thread collection. It needed to be easy to access, enough room to grow her inventory of threads and still look awesome in her sewing room. Her husband was up for the challenge and designed and built a gorgeous shelf unit for all the threads.
We thought you all might enjoy seeing what Jacki has for her threads and give you some ideas for what you can maybe do in your sewing area.
Jacki is understandably thrilled and has decided her husband is a keeper. I agree!

Sherry Johnson

Sherry Johnson was in with her gorgeous Tshirt quilt she made for a family member. Sherry worked so hard collecting the t-shirts and planning out the layout and the colours for borders. A fantastic finish!
T-Shirt quilts are a bit of a different animal in that you have different consistencies of the fabrics, stretch qualities and sometimes the dreaded rubberized decals. You do need to stabilize the Tshirts with an interfacing to keep it from stretching as you sew it. In our community we have a quilter who specializes in Memory quilts and can help you out. She offers lessons as well. Marnie Freeman at http://memoryquiltsbymarnie.ca
Thank you to Sherry for sharing with us all!

Maureen Connolly

Maureen Connolly was in on Friday to longarm quilt her gorgeous Nordic Triangles quilt. Fresh, crisp colours in a modern layout. Maureen wanted to have a white batting for this one as there is so much negative space. We just so happened to have a lofty poy batting 120" wide come in and it was just the ticket!
Bill was the assistant on this one, using Glide Cool Mint on the quilt. The edge to edge design is called Seamless and was perfect!
Thank you to Maureen for sharing all your great ideas with us!

Quilt Canada quilts

Kathleen Nadler very kindly sent photos of some of the quilts that really grabbed her attention. By no means all of them as they were all just amazing!
The one shown has quite the story. I hope I get all the information correct and here goes....The lady shown raised the cow from calf to now. Every morning the cow would come to the fence to greet the lady. The lady passed on and the cow continues to come to the fence in search of the lady. Hence the cow is blue and Kathleen and I stood in the middle of the shop with tears running down our faces.
Unfortunately I do not have the name of the quilter but I certainly would like to congratulate her . My sincere apologies for that and I do commend the quilt artist for an amazing talent. I would love it if anyone can pass me the name and I will post that.
Andrea S. has since forwarded the information in regards to the quilts: All the winners photos and artists statements can be found on the CQA site under the NJS award winners 2022 tab. Well worth a look. https://canadianquilter.com/njs-award-winners-2022/ Thank you so much Andrea!

Table leg risers

We have a client who has some risers for your cutting table. These are solid wood with a cutout for the table legs to go in. The cost is free, she just wants them gone.
The risers are used when you are too tall for the cutting table. It can be brutal on your back when you are hunched over cutting loads of pieces and can even affect the accuracy of the cuts!

Fidget Blankets

Claire Mackay, a member of the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, is looking for some help with her Fidget Blankets. The group is ready to start sewing and is looking for the attachments....zippers, buttons, trims and more. These are for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's to ease boredom and stress. We have a basket at the shop for any donations you have. A great opportunity to purge a bit of the sewing room and provide help to so many in our community.
Thank you to Claire for heading up this great program, and thank you in advance to all of you that can donate. We are looking for textures and fiddly items to be sewn to the blankets.

Weekly Quilting Tip

Are you a hand stitcher or a machine stitcher of the binding on your quilts? Personally I am a hand stitcher but in the situations where I need to get it done quickly or the item is going to be going in the wash frequently I will machine stitch.
I have a great tip sheet courtesy of E.E. Schenck on how to do a binding with a flange. This means 2 colours to the binding! As you may know, I do like to decorate, so this is right up my alley!
