Meet Your Neighbour

018-3

This week I would like everyone to meet my husband, Bill Fagervik. Last week I introduced myself; this week is my other half turn!

Bill was born in Alliston, Ontario the first of 5 children. His parents were in the military at the time. Still an infant the family moved back out to BC. Through the years they lived in several different communities throughout the province. In the early to mid 60s they lived on Young St. in Kamloops. Bill can remember riding his bike all over town from downtown out to the airport!

The family then moved up to Terrace and then to the Queen Charlotte Islands. Bill was sent to Vancouver to attend high school which is where we met. He had the snazziest little white TR4A sports car and was quite the smoozer! Married a year out of high school the family moved up to Masset on the Queen Charlotte Islands where he drove logging trucks, school bus and fuel truck. Basically any kind of large equipment he was driving. From there to Vernon and finally up to Kamloops. Bill spent his working life in trucking and loved it! The last 25 years he had his own business driving truck all over BC to Alberta and into the USA.

When he retired from trucking I had opened the shop and he started to come in to help out. Quite an adjustment but over time we made it work and now he is my rock and I can't imagine Bill not here!

When we purchased a long arm machine for rental and quilting people's quilts Bill became the go-to fellow. He has become well versed in all aspects of the long arm industry, from selling the machines, helping people on the machine and servicing the APQS machines throughout BC.

I am one very lucky lady and am truly blessed to have him! By the way we celebrated our 44th anniversary yesterday! How on earth did that happen?

Trunk Show

  all-about-You-its-all-about-you-25000375-314-314

A trunk show? At our shop? Yes! Guess who the presenters are?
YOU!!
Let's have a Sunday afternoon , July 14th, showing our very first quilt! I think this would be so much fun to see what everyone made for the their first project! If you don't still have your very first one, that is okay. Just bring the earliest one you can find. No cost, just fun with some door prizes and snacks.

Just a bit of a heads up.....I have mine still after all these years, made from some stunning Walmart cotton. Looks like one of the grandkids has spilled some juice on one edge. I actually called this quilt "Missing Points" and I am sure you can guess why!

Save the date July 14th from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Give us a call at 250-376-7630 to reserve your seat!

Paulette Eccleston

003-13

Paulette Eccleston was in to long arm quilt this darling little pink quilt. This one is for Paulette's granddaughter and I am sure she is going to love it!

Thank you to Paulette for more great ideas on what to do with our stashes!

Mary Jane Reid

  009-8

Mary Jane Reid was in to quilt her gorgeous Irish Chain quilt she pieced for her friend Helen. Blue and whites are one of my favourite combinations of colours. I love the crisp, fresh look achieved on this quilt.

Thank you to Mary Jane for inspiring us yet again!

006-10

Take a look at Don's incredible family quilt! The quilt was made in 1937 by Mary Eliza [McFee] Duncan all by hand, except for the binding.

Originally Mary had wanted a gold fabric, but had to settle for orange  as she couldn't find any of the gold fabric. The piecing and quilting on the quilt are absolutely exquisite!

Just a note of interest: Mary was a very tiny woman measuring only 4'10" tall and had 17 pregnancies! Good heavens!!!! Only 8 of her children survived. At the time she made the quilt she was living in South Burnaby. Mary lived from 1855 - 1947 which makes her 92 at time of making the quilt! Wow!

The quilt has been registered as a Heritage quilt. I have encouraged Don to chat with Dianne Jansen out at Diversity Quilting in regards to the future home for this great project.

From this quilt the lesson learned is: If you have any story to go with your quilt make sure you write it down, make a label or record it somehow! This quilt is very well documented and gives a fascinating look into life many years ago!

Debbie Ulinder

017-2

Debbie Ulinder was in to long arm quilt her jaw dropping collage quilt called "Old Blue". This is the first collage quilt to come in on the rental program and we were thrilled to see it!

Debbie used mostly scraps she had in her sewing room, but did confess to buying a bit more to fill in. This is just gorgeous and now I want to stay home and make a collage quilt!

Thank you to Debbie for a major boost in motivation for all of us!

Denim and Leather BOM

  Denim_Leather_Stars_Block_of_the_Month-Registration_Fee_1

A new Block of the Month program has started at the shelf! We just love the rich blues and deep browns in this project. One of the most appealing aspects of this quilt is that it is suitable for young, older, male, female, weddings, graduations and more. Not a lot of quilts tick that many boxes, but this one does it all!

Price of the program is a $25 commitment fee and then $39 per month for 7 months. You can purchase the entire  kit for $279 and waive the commitment fee if that works better for you. The quilt is on display at the front of the shop so come on by and take a look!

You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or check it out on line http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Boxed Pouches

  boxed-pouch

I came across this great little pattern for making these easy boxed pouches. They could be used for cosmetics, kids toys, jewellery or any number of things. Maybe even your rotary cutters for when you go on retreat?

The pattern is a free download by Kaufman Fabrics. Click here to get the pattern: http://www.robertkaufman.com/assets/pdf/BoxedPouches.pdf
