Diana Hewins

Here is an interesting thought....Diana chose a batik she fell in love with and chose to do no piecing, just let the fabric be a stand alone. She did a fabulous computer design from edge to edge for a fast fun finish! This one will be a picnic quilt and will be perfect!
I am thinking that I have some fabrics at home that just live there because I love them, but have no idea what to do with them. What a great idea to just get them quilted and use them as table cloths, quilts for in the trailer or at least get them out of the sewing room closet!
Thank you to Diane for a great idea! You are a constant source of inspiration to us!

Paulette Eccleston

Paulette Eccleston was in to long arm quilt her beautiful sampler quilt. She told me that the fabrics and pattern is a bit old but it doesn't matter. It looks lovely!
I am partial to a sampler quilt as there is a chance it can hold my attention long enough to actually get it done! Paulette was teaching alongside Neila MacKee at the time so some of you may recognize the block patterns. A bit of a trip down memory lane.
Thank you to Paulette for the trip down the memory lane and for sharing with us all!

Leslie Heppner

Leslie Heppner was in to pick up her quilt she had us long arm quilt for her. She had purchased a kit from us called Jacaranda featuring the Egret in the purples and greens. Just gorgeous!
Lori Dewart did the quilting using a computer design called Asian Flow with a beautiful watery design edge to edge. The quilt was quick and easy to piece and likewise with the quilting. Leslie's piecing was perfect and that made the longarming go super fast and easy! Thank you to Leslie!
Are you wanting to get some of your projects quilted? We are at a week to a week and half turnaround. To get an estimate of what your quilt will cost to be quilted : length x width x .03cents. You can just bring your quilt in with batting and backing 4" larger around or send an email to me at info@fabricshelf.ca

Carol Needoba

Carol Needoba was in to long arm quilt her lovely little baby quilt she made for a family friend. This one has a bit of a modern take on baby quilts.....and I love it! Good lord...am I becoming modern? Or more modern?
Carol opted for the computer program to make it so much easier and so perfect! Edge to edge design chosen is called Time Warp and is just spot on. The colours and the pattern of the quilt are simple but so very effective!
Thank you to Carol for sharing with everyone!

Sandra O'Reilly

Sandra O'Reilly was in to pick up her quilt she had us quilt for her. Sandra pieced the top using a line of fabrics from Northcott called Whispering Pines. Sadly we don't have ours in until July. Anyway we did get the wide backing so Sandra waiting so patiently, as in for weeks and weeks and lo and behold it finally arrived! I was practically dancing I was so excited!
The quilt was then handed off to Lori Dewart to be long armed with a gorgeous cloud edge to edge design. The call was made for Sandra to come in for her quilt and I was on pins and needles waiting for her to see this spectacular quilt. Remember that she really had not seen the wide backing, she only knew that I told her it was perfect! In comes Sandra and I have to say she was speechless at how fantastic it looks!
A jaw dropping amazing quilt done by 2 very talented ladies...Sandra O'Reilly and Lori Dewart! Well done and we want to say thank you for inspiring us all with this amazing creation! Photo shows the front of the quilt while the photo below shows the back of the quilt with the amazing wide backing!

Lori Dewart

How is this for one amazing quilt? Dinner Plate Dahlia, a Quiltworx design, pieced by Lori Dewart.
Lori worked on this intricate pattern at several retreats with Quiltworx CI Anne Hall over that last year and a half. She utilized the Quiltster program through Quiltworx to plan out the colours and where they would go, which as you can imagine could be rather daunting! Just an incredible project and by the grin on her face you can see how thrilled she is!
Lori will be quilting this one herself on her APQS Millie machine. Lori does some amazing work and we can't wait to see it all quilted.
Thank you to Lori for sharing with us .....and yes now I feel like a slug. But I did make a pillowcase this week! LOL

Alaska Quilt by Anne Hall

Anne Hall pieced this gorgeous quilt designed by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. A hugely popular quilt pattern we have had a few come through the doors to be quilted. This one is in the original colours of the soft denim blues and creams.
Anne did the piecing and extended it to a queen by adding more blocks to the top and the side. She chose to use wool batting by Hobbs. The quilt is beautifully quilted by Bill using a snowflake design with the computer.
Anne and I sat on the couch one night with a bowl of chips in between us, glass of wine on either end of the couch and Downton Abbey on the TV while we did the binding. We used Silk thread by Superior thread for the handsewing for the binding and I have never had binding go so easy and fast! There was no knotting, tangles or fraying! We just motored through and had the whole queen size quilt bound in just over 2 hours! Guess who will be binding in silk thread from now on?
Yes we do carry the silk thread in the shop in neutral colours. Try it and I know you will love it!
Quilt is hanging in the shop if you would like to come have a look. Patterns and templates for the Alaska design are in stock. You can find them in the store or on line at http://wwwfabricshelf.ca

Laundry Basket Quilts

Mystery Quilt 2021 by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts has a fabulous design for you to do. Quilt finishes at 68" x 68" but we do have loads of her fabrics in the shop so easy enough to make it larger.
I have actually started this one myself. Love the fabrics...like soft faded denims. This is where I am hoping you all can keep me moving forward and getting this one done. I am hoping that each week I can post that section. I will also post with the link for the instructions for you. As well, I do have them printed off for anyone who needs a written pattern.
I am not too sure if I will do the applique or just leave it. Hmmmmmmm. I did my Week 2! Actually Edyta planned it for you to make it in 12 days. I will get right on that. Below is the picture of proof that I did my Week 2.

UFO Days Quiltworx

We realize that many of you have Quiltworx UFO projects that live in bins in your sewing rooms and need to get finished. But how to finish? I can't even remember what I am supposed to do to finish!!!
Anne Hall is offering a 2 day UFO class on the 3rd and 4th of July. Cost of the class is $60 per day or $100 for both. We do apologize for the short notice but trying to get everything to fit is not for the faint of heart. You will need to bring all your parts as all students may be working on different projects. There will be no supply list. When you originally take a class from Anne she does give you a supply list which you can work from to ensure you have those important parts.
You can call the shop at 250-376-7630 or find it on the website. http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Set Sail by Northcott

New fabric in this week! Don't you just love it when the delivery truck arrives? I still get so darn excited!
This time we have a line of fabric from Northcott called Set Sail. The bolts are a bit skinchy so we did not kit. We do have the fabrics and can help you make a kit for yourself though, we just did not want to run out. That is truly tragic. We have the panel to make the tote bag as well as all the fabrics and pattern.
Find it in store or online at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Abandon by Tim Holtz

And of course we had more fabric come in the doors. This line is called Abandon by Tim Holtz for Free Spirit Fabrics.
One of the most "in demand" fabrics out there right now, this is just gorgeous! I can guarantee you that some of this will be coming home with Heather. I will let it just live at my house and marinate for a while before I decide what to make with it.
You can find it in the shop or online at http://www.fabricshelf.ca
