Meet Your Neighbour
| |
This week we would like everyone to meet Anne Walker. Anne is a wonderful person who lives with the belief "If you talk the talk, you need to walk the walk". Anne doesn't just talk about how to be a good person....she is the good person! We are so blessed to know her and count her as a friend!
Anne was born in Vancouver and raised in Millardville, later moving to Surrey. She married the love of her life, Vern and the travelling commenced...Prince George, Lac la Hache, Penticton, Surrey and of course Kamloops. Kamloops came about in 1975. Anne and Vern had 3 children of their own and then took in 4 of their nieces to raise for 6 years. Vern was working road construction, which meant Anne was parenting much of the time on her own.
Anne was sewing for all the boys their western shirts for economy and also for the love of sewing. She also was sewing other clothing, home decor and lots of mending.
Anne started quilting 40 years ago when she took a course downtown Kamloops. We couldn't come up with the name of the shop, so if anyone has any ideas we would love the memory jog. It wasn't Fabric House, nor Macrame Hut. She is sure it was downtown on Victoria. Her first quilt was 15 years in the making with her friend Arlene being the motivator for Anne to finish it. Since then she has quilted many, many quilts for family, friends and charities.
Anyway Anne has been happily quilting all these years and loves every part of the process. When I asked her what her favorite part is she replied "The hand quilting!". Really? that is a first!
Thank you to Anne for sharing a bit of yourself with us all. You are an amazing woman with a truly generous heart!

Quilt Show April 27/28th, 2019
Quilt Show this year is a go!! We were a bit iffy for a space but it is all good! So excited! April 27/28th. I will get the word out for volunteers as soon as I get to that. Thank you for your patience.
As always the quilt show will be right here in the Brock Shopping Center, in Kamloops, BC.
Our quilt show costs nothing to enter a quilt and everyone is welcome. If you can let us know how big your quilt is that is helpful for arrangement of the quilt racks.
We would love to see what you have been working on currently or in the past. The quilts shown are modern, antique, traditional and can be bed quilts, bags, clothing, runners and placemats or anything else that you have made from fabrics.
Entry to see the show is by donation to offset the costs and proceeds go to charity. I am cracking my whip, ladies, so you can get your quilts in!
