Hero of the Week

patty-mills

Patty Mills is our Hero of the Week!

Patty is a sales rep for several companies and we love it when she arrives with the multiple suitcases. She is one of my favorite reps....informative, knowledgeable, never pushy and always works with us, not at us.

What really makes Patty a hero is her contribution to several Rescue organizations for dogs in the Fraser Valley. At one point in time a few weeks ago she had 10 dogs in her house!  Her heart is huge and her caring and help for some of the most vulnerable of animals is truly inspirational.

Thank you Patty for all you are and all you do!

Wendy White

  wendy-white-and-march-kimberbell-002

Wendy White was in to show her Kimberbell Bench Pillow for the month of March. She blinged it up hugely and I love it! She has added crystals and jewels with lots of fancy stitches and free motion work!

Thank you so much for sharing, Wendy!

Sally Andrysiak

sally-a-and-karen-shook-001

Sally Andrysiak was in to show us her 365 Day Quilt and it is incredible! Our jaws hit the floor when we saw this one with 365 blocks in it! I have enough problems finishing 4 placemats!

Sally worked on the project for just over a year and finished it just  the other week. Her use of colours, design and values in the quilt are spot on.

Thank you, Sally for showing us this quilt. I now feel like a complete slug. LOL

Color Influence

  color_influence-miriam_rawson

I love the simplicity of this great project. If you have a stash, or some 2 1/2" strips looking for a home this may just be the ticket!

The project finishes at 40" x 50" but should be pretty easy to make larger.

Karen Shook

sally-a-and-karen-shook-005

Karen Shook, from Vancouver Island, was here visiting our very own Sue Pare. The two of them were out shopping for the day and stopped in to show us what Karen made with some gorgeous batiks! Isn't this stunning? I love the colours in the quilt, moving from light blues into vibrant purples.

Thank you to Karen for sharing your quilt with us all.

9th Annual North Shore Quilt Show

  079

Quilt Show this year is April 28 and 29th. We have had to move it one weekend ahead due to a booking conflict with the Seniors Center. Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

This quilt show is all about you! Think of it as a giant Show and Tell with lots of inspiration for everyone!

I have always envisioned our quilt shop as part of a network of like minded people. The annual quilt show is an opportunity to show what you have done, see what others have done, to inspire others and to be inspired. I hope all of you will have a chance to be a part of a great event held right here in the Brock Center.

We have a few things lined up for the show. Jennifer Smith from H.A. Kidd will be here to show us what she has in the way of notions and ideas. These are straight from the warehouse so it should be pretty darn exciting to see!

No entry fee, no judging .....just fun!

We will start to accept quilts in the middle of April. We will also be looking for volunteers to help out at the show so stay tuned for details.

Photo: Ruth Fane showing her gorgeous wall hanging! This one is from 2010, back when we were in the first little shop. No heat, no air conditioning and only 800 square feet! My how the shop....and the show ......have grown!

Oldies but Goodies for the quilt show!

antique machine

The Antique section of last year's quilt show proved to be very popular so we will be repeating it again.

If anyone has anything to show please let us know. It can be sewing machines, sewing patterns, notions or other items of interest to sewers and quilters. We are trying to get a sense as to how much room we will need for that part of the show.

Give us a call at 250-376-7630 or email us at info@fabricshelf.ca

And the Quilt Show Grows

  needlework pick

Anyone with needlework, knitting, crochet or other needle work let us know and we will get you all signed up. There is no fee and all the rules are the same to bring your items in.

You can start to bring items to Donna April 15th onward. We will be helping her with displays and organizing but she will be managing that component of the show herself.

Kathy Elliott

march-16-003

Kathy Elliott was in to long arm quilt this beauty of a quilt. The quilt is called "Mystical Journey" by Lidia Froehler of Cotton Treasures.

I love the choice in colours and Kathy did a great job quilting the quilt with a panto she had never used before. She chose a quilting design that mirrored the stars in the quilt.

Thank you so much for sharing with us all, Kathy!

Shirley Huculak

  march-16-007

Shirley Huculak, who operates like a quilting machine, was in to long arm quilt this stunning two colour quilt! Using only the blue and black colours she turned out a great looking project which I am sure will be loved for many years to come!

The panto she chose to do is a new one to her as well. It is called "Jessie's  Swirls" and it looked super on the quilt. Shirley is now fairly adept at the swirls and curves when quilting!

Thank you Shirley for taking us all on your quilting journey!
