Hero of the Week
This week I chose Angelo of Farro's Greek Take Out here at the Brock Shopping Center. Every time we have had a quilt show, event of some kind or am just working late he has come through with dinner for us! He has donated salads and more to the volunteers who help to set up the show every year in April. We so appreciate his great foods and willingness to be a part of the community! Thank you Angelo for all that you do to build our community in Brock! Give them a call at 778-470-2929 for some delicious Greek food and pizzas.

Elephants in Portland
Bill and I were down to Portland to see the Spring International Quilt Market. This was one of the first quilts we saw and I was just stunned! The use of colours, the quilting and the overall quilt was absolutely incredible! Unfortunately I was too excited and forgot to get the quilter's name. I apologize for that.
I also forgot to get the name of the quilt. Sheesh! You would think I was emotionally enhanced or something!

Santa Maria del Fiore
This one I took a picture of the name in hopes of passing this amazing quilt information over to everyone. The quilt is made by Mieko Sasano of Tokyo, Japan. The techniques used in the project are: hand-pieced, appliqued, and embroidered with trapunto and was hand quilted as well! Holy smokes....just amazing! This is an original design and she had this to say: " I made this quilt as a memory of Italy. I was inspired by the magnificence of the cathedral of Florence, Santa Maria del Fiore."

Patti Carey
While at Spring Market we had opportunity to meet Patti Carey, a designer of patterns and fabrics for Northcott Fabrics. She made this lovely summer shift dress using the fabric panels from the "Shimmer" line.
I guess the catch is to have the panel work for one width across the front and one width across the back. Notice how her boots match the dress perfectly! She is a bundle of energy, creativity and ideas. Just so inspiring to meet people with that level of creativity!

Sue Pare
Our very own Sue Pare designed and pieced this bed size quilt all from blue batiks. She did a great job on the designing and executing of this one! Yesterday she came in to long arm quilt it and used a Glide thread [amythest colour] and the bumpity panto to achieve great results.
I think she should be writing and selling the pattern.

Pastiche
We have new fabrics in the shop....Pastiche by In the Beginning Fabrics.
"Pastiche" is something that imitates, celebrates, and/or incorporates several elements from a variety of sources. These fabrics draw influence from Europe and Asia, from Impressionist paintings to even more abstract works of art.
I think it has a bohemian look to it and just love the rich colours and designs. Almost a bit hippy dippy. I am making the quilt show in the photo and will have kits available asap.
Check out the fabrics in store or online!

Quilts for Grand Forks
We are collecting quilts for the flood victims of Grand Forks. One of the Quilt shops in the town, Heart N' Sole Quilt Shop, is asking for help in her community. I cannot imagine the overwhelming sense of sadness in seeing all that remains of my home after flooding.
Please drop off quilts at the shop and we will get them down to the shop in Grand Forks.
