Elaine Stefura
| |
Elaine Stefura was in to show us what her lovely little wall hanging turned out like.
She was working with a panel and metallic thread which presented some challenges for her. Elaine phoned with questions to how to quilt with the metallic thread and get perfect results.
I have listed the pointers that I have and use when using this type of thread:
1. Use a Metallic needle. You can use a Topstitch needle if you don't have a metallic one. The main thing you are looking for is a larger eye so the tread doesn't shred going through. 2. Place the thread on a thread stand behind the machine or in a cup if all else fails. This enables the thread to work the kinks out before it starts to go through your machine. 3.Use a product called Sewer's Aid which is a thread lubricant so the thread will not shred as it goes through the tension discs. Run a bead of the Sewer's Ad along the length of the spool 2 or 3 times. Depending on how much you are stitching you may need to do this a couple of times more. 4. Miss the last thread guide right above the needle. This is one last place for that metallic thread to possibly get hung up and snap. 5. Lastly sew slower and lengthen your stitch a titch. The faster you sew the more the machine heats up and then stretching the thread. That will make tension more of an issue.
Sounds like a lot but it isn't really and you will find it so much easier to stitch using that shiny gorgeous thread.
Good luck and please give it a try on all your Christmas projects.Give ma a call if you have problems 250-376-7630

Agnes Olsen
Agnes Olsen was in to long arm quilt her awesome pineapple quilt. It is huge!
Agnes used the computer for perfect results every time! The piecing on this one was so easy to work with, everything nice and straight to use for reference points.
The quilt was made from regular cotton with no batiks in at all. She was mainly looking for values in the fabrics and chose her light, medium and dark very well. The darkest fabric is a Fossil Fern which was just perfect!
Thank you to Agnes for your creativity and for sharing the day with us!

Maureen Connolly
Maureen Connolly was in on Friday to quilt these 2 darling twin size quilts.
These 2 quilts were made for her twin granddaughters who are five years old. If you look careful you will see the differences in their dresses and their pony tails as well as having their names on the quilts.
Absolutely the cutest ever Maureen! Thank you so much for sharing with everyone and I just know your little granddaughters are going to treasure these quilts their whole lives.

Betsy Hartwick
Betsy Hartwick pieced this gorgeous flannel quilt for her grandson and brought it to us to quilt on the long arm.
Keep in mind that this is a bit of a Village quilt in that there were several people involved in the creation. So Betsy did the piecing, Bill chose the design for the quilting [called Bear, Moose and Pine] and the thread colour [gold Glide thread], Lori Dewart did the long arm quilting and Betsy's friend helped her sew the binding on. Me? I just told everyone what to do and took pictures! LOL
This is one of our favourite flannel quilts to be seen in the shop. Especially for a young boy, which can be a hard one to find fabric and pattern for.
Thank you to Betsy for letting us be part of the village to create this fabulous quilt. Your grandson will love it for many many years to come!

We are participating in this program!
| We are helping the NSBIA in this fabulous opportunity to give back to our community.
Heather's Fabric Shelf will be a Drop Off point for gently used purses that you are passing on with some items inside for women in need.
This has been a challenging year for many of us and the need is greater than ever before. In the picture you see Patti up to her knees in purses.....now imagine Patti with purses up to her thighs!
Let's have some fun with this and load those purses with fun items, useful items and de-clutter our closets at the same time! |
