Elda Eye

Elda Eye brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her. It was quilted in a lovely pattern called Alfresco which Leslie Ford and Bill, the longarmers, made larger to have the quilt stay soft and cozy.
A bit of an interesting note to Elda's quilt. When Elda came in to pick up her quilt, several of us commented on how lovely her needle turn applique was. She then told us she actually had never done needle turn applique before and her sister had told her just to turn it under and stitch as tiny as she could. There was dead silence. We then asked her: " So you used no freezer paper or anything to stabilize?" Elda replies:"No, was I supposed to?". Again silence....then Heather replies "Elda, you do know that you aren't supposed to be able to do this to that level of skill first out of the gate, right?" My gosh, you should see her quilt. This may sound a bit inappropriate, but Elda has the most amazing curves! Smooth, even and no blips.
Thank you so much Elda for sharing with us all and also thank you to Bill and Leslie!

Nicole Gendy

Nicole Gendy brought her quilt in for us to quilt for her. This quilt is a big one and I am thinking she is looking at a few days to get the binding sewn on. Nicole says she quite enjoys doing the binding and as this is a keeper quilt for her bed, she is going really enjoy the hand sewing!
It was just so cute when Nicole came in to pick up her quilt that Lori Dewart longarmed for her. The panto was a lovely winter design called Snow Winds. Nicole had her 2 kids with her and right away they were pointing out the different fabrics that mom used on their items. These kids are just so adorable, you just want to pinch [ gently ] those little cheeks.Very well behaved and really happy for their mom.
Thank you so much Nicole for sharing with all of us!

Sheila Gibbs

Sheila Gibbs was in to longarm quilt her vibrant beautiful Disappearing 9 Patch quilt. Her ability to work with colour and confidence is growing with every project we see of hers. We are so thrilled that Sheila has brought us along on her quilting journey.
This was edge to edge computer quilted using the Bumpity design which was perfect. It locked down all the seams and looked great on the quilt.
This is just one of 2 quilts that Sheila quilted in the one day. Check out the one below for quilt #2.

Sheila Gibbs Quilt #2

Here we have the second quilt that Sheila Gibbs did in the one day. The edge to edge design chosen is called Bossa Nova and is one of my personal favourites. Whirls and swirls and covers a lot of ground. In this quilt it looks like swirling snow in the wind. The snowman is just so cute!
Love it Sheila and we are so excited to see what you bring in each time! Thank you from all of us!

Mary Jane Reid Sampler

This amazing quilt was designed and made by Mary Jane Reid. She was working with several different colours and themes of fabrics which as you know can be very hard to make into a cohesive quilt.
With a lot of planning, plotting and trying things out this is what she finally finished with. Her piecing is spot on with a great balance of colour and block choice. Scrappy quilts are not as simple as what I had originally thought. Trying to get a sashing that works with all the colours and blocks is really hard, but I think Mary Jane nailed it on this one!
The edge to edge design chosen on the computer program is called Athena and is perfect. Locks down all those seams but lets the fabric and the block design be the star of the show.
A really wonderful project Mary Jane and thank you for sharing your creativity!

A Call for Help

The Women's Shelter is asking if we can collect stockings for the women they are helping to get back on their feet.
Their goal is 10, but of course more is always better. Extras would just be put away for next year.
If you would like to help, please bring your stockings to the shop and I will get them over to the Shelter.
Pictured is a panel we currently have in the shop called Winterwood. You get 4 stockings, all different and choose your own lining and backing. If you wanted only 2 stocking just join 2 of the stockings together. The panels are $15.99 and available in the shop and online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/WINTERWOOD-STOCKING-PANEL-x60186333.htm
Your stocking donation can be sewn or bought, but geared toward the women. You do not have to fill the stockings, unless you choose to. Kathy Mirtle has brought in 2 stockings she made from her stash. Thank you so much Kathy!
