Meet Your Neighbour

terry-lynne-002

This week I would like for everyone to meet Terry-Lynn Stone. This is an amazing woman and we are so incredibly lucky to have her as one of our very own Kamloopsians!

Terry-Lynn was born in Yorkshire, Britain. Her father was in the military so she grew up all over the world.....Hong Kong, Singapore, Malta and Germany.

Years later she was attending a conference with the Rotary Club and stumbled upon a presentation for "Days for Girls". The presentation changed her life forever! She now is the president of the "Days for Girls" in Canada and personally is the head of the chapter in Kamloops. The program distributes to 125 countries and Kamloops has helped in 7 countries. There are currently over 1 million girls who have benefited from this. Not too bad for an organization that only start in 2008!

"Days for Girls" is a program designed for girls in developing countries to be provided with sanitary product in a kit to last for 3 years! I am not kidding....they each get half a dozen cloth pads, 2 pairs of underwear and a bag with soap. For 3 years that is all they have! The girls are so excited they cheer!  There is much superstition in these countries so we have to aware and respectful of their culture.

Terry-Lynn is currently looking for fabrics. They must be 100% cotton flannel or 100% cotton fabrics. There can be no faces [ as in no animals of any kind, fish included.] but flowers and everything else is great. The pieces can be as small at 5" and up to whatever you have.

Please drop your donations off at our shop any time and I will get them to Terry-Lynn. If you have any questions about the program you can contact Terry-Lynn at http://kamloopsbc@daysfor girls.org

My Very First Quilt!

007-3

Take a peek at these quilts that the ladies made in one of our beginner quilt classes. From the left: Colleen Gatehouse, Nancy Cuthbert and Trish Berry.

In the class they learned everything from the cutting, sewing to the quilting and the binding! Great work ladies!

Lori Goodkey

  010

Lori Goodkey was in to take a class on using the long arm and brought in this gorgeous little quilt.

Lori had recently attended a baby shower where she trace the pictures from a book and had the guests sign them and colour them in. She then took them home and heat set them before designing and sewing them into a quilt! Isn't that an amazing idea? What a great keepsake!

Women to Women Program

kindness-image

Our "Women to Women" program is starting on December 1st. We collect all small things for women in crisis. We also collect cash to go towards helping fund programs to help women get back on their feet.

Christmas is not always a happy time for everyone. The stresses of finances, weather and family dynamics can put huge amounts of pressure on women. Please consider helping out in this  worthy cause.

Some ideas for the stockings or bags may be:
1. shampoo / conditioner
2. soaps
3. mitts / gloves
4. hats
5. note pads
6. scarves
7. chocolates / candy
8. playing cards
9. bath goodies
10. toothbrush / toothpaste
11. crossword puzzle
12. hand cream
13. lip balm
14. socks
15. sanitary hygiene products

These are just some ideas. If you have others we would welcome them!
Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.

Jim Mitchell - Artist

  jim-mitchell-and-snowman-painting

This is a little different but interesting. Margaret Mitchell was in earlier this fall to purchase some snowman fabrics to make placemats as a gift. Her husband, Jim, then decided to draw and paint a matching picture! I had no idea that he was an artist! Isn't this just the coolest idea as a gift ..... placemats from Margaret and painting from Jim!
