Sheila Erichuk

Sheila Erichuk brought her beautiful Christmas quilt in for us to longarm quilt. A simple design using fabrics she had already, this is going to be a much loved heirloom in the family. Sometimes the quilt doesn't need all sorts of complicated piecing and intense design. Just let the fabrics do the job for you!
The digital design chosen is Christmas Doodle Ornaments with Glide Vegas Gold thread for the top. Longarm quilting by Lori Dewart.
Big thank you to Sheila for sharing with us all!

Bev Batch brought her jaw dropping Log Cabin quilt in for us to longarm for her. This one is from a kit purchased years ago, and like many of us decided it was time to start getting these UFO items out and done.
Truly one of the most beautiful log cabin quilts I have seen, people were stopping to watch what was going on. Everyone from beginner to experienced expressed appreciation on this one! Warm golds, reds, greens and blues, this is gorgeous!
Digital design is Feathers with a Twist and top thread Glide Military Gold. Lori Dewart is the longarm quilter on this one.
Thank you to Bev for sharing with us all!

Jeanine Joelson

Jeanine Joelson brought her amazing quilt in for us to longarm for her. The theme is Harry Potter with loads of Harry Potter fabrics throughout. The fabrics give the illusion of magic and mystery and I can see a very excited and thrilled Harry Potter fan with this one.
One of the most unusual and creative things to see on this quilt is that the back is a quilt as well! I can only imagine the work that has gone into creating this masterpiece! The photo below is of the back of the quilt.
Leslie Ford is the longarm magician who made this all come together with a digital design called Wizard's Sky and top thread Glide Cool Grey 7 and bobbin Lead Grey.
Thank you so much Jeanine for sharing with everyone!

Weekly Quilting Tip
| |
We often are asked if different fabrics can be used together in a quilt. I only know from the quilts we have come in and my own personal experience, but here it is.
You can certainly join regular cottons with batik or flannel in the quilt top. Just be aware that the batik is a much tighter weave than regular cotton. That being said, I would suggest you do a tension test to see that it is good. If you just can't get it to not have little annoying poke throughs, try switching your machine needle to a Microtex in a size 12.
When it comes to the backing that is a bit of a different story. The fabric pieces are larger so there is a bigger chance of there being tension issues. If you have flannel and batik joined for the backing it is liable to be a bit difficult as one has give in it and not the other. When it is put on the frame to be quilted they don't behave well together. I would go with just the flannel or just the batik. Think of it like a girdle. The girdle will hold the one part in but all the flowy part is going to buckle and flop.
So rules are: Cotton and batik....yes but must have the same consistency Flannel and batik....no Flannel and cotton.....yes, but again must have the same consistency.
