Meet Your Neighbour

marg-kinney

This week meet Marg Kinney. Marg was born in Brookdale, Manitoba and spent her first 14 years there. The family then sold the farm, packed up the mobile home and traveled west to Kelowna where Marg's aunt resided.

Marg finished her schooling in Kelowna before heading to UBC for 1 year. She began working for CIBC bank in Kelowna in 1970. Marg then transferred up to Kamloops in 1994 where she worked until retirement in 2011.

I asked about her sewing and she stated that she started as a little girl in the 4H Home Arts on the the prairies. This continued to Kelowna. One of the biggest moments in her life was when she was chosen to represent BC in Washington DC for the 4H club. Through this she had lunch at the White House, met Robert Kennedy and met lifelong friends.

Margs' mother and grandmother were a huge inspiration and help to her in her sewing. About 20 years ago she reached out to her mom to get her going with quilting. Mostly self taught, she enjoys all aspects of quilting but especially the design and creating.

When I asked her what is her dream in regards to quilting.....she replied that she would love to go to Houston or Paducah for the big shows. Marg, when I win the lottery I will take you with me!

Thank you to Marg Kinney for sharing your story with us all! You are such a lovely person and I am blessed to call you my friend.

Elizabeth Biagioni

elizabeth-biagioni-winning-quilt-vernon

Elizabeth Biagioni was the winner of the raffle quilt at the Vernon Quilt show!  What an amazing quilt!!

The Story of the Quilt

Yvette Miller, along with others took several classes on how to make this beautiful quilt. After barely getting started on the quilt Yvette was diagnosed with Cancer. Coby Hamstra was having knee surgery so offered to finish the quilt while she was immobile.
Coby then returned the quilt to Yvette and Yvette had it quilted by Vicki Reierson. The quilt was then donated by Yvette to The Vernon Jubilee Foundation in hopes of raising funds to go toward new equipment.
The ultimate goal is for Vernon to have it's own up and running equipment so that Cancer Clients from the Vernon area do no have to go to Kelowna for any of their testing.
The size of this quilt is 60" x 80". This will lay nicely atop a queen bed.

Congratulations Elizabeth!!

Deb Lebsack

  debbie-lebsack-coral-quilt

Deb Lebsack was in to long arm quilt 2 quilts in one day! This is the really incredible part of the story....her grandchildren made the quilts!

Her grandson, Nolan is 9 and made the black quilt and her granddaughter, Jaiden is 11 and made the quilt you see to the right.
I was just gobsmacked to see what these kids produced!

Debbie, you must be so very proud of these 2 textile artists!
