Weekly Quilting Tip

This week's quilting tip comes to you from our very own Longarm specialist, Bill! I am speaking as the wife right now and I can tell you that keeping the man organized can be a full time job. LOL
Bill has some magnetic little bowls he gets from Princess Auto for his pins and odd sods. these are just huge for keeping all the needles and pins etc. together. Bill keeps his on the end rails of the longarm. Even better if you drop a bunch of pins on the floor you can run the bowl over, it picks up the pins and Bob's your uncle, you are ready to go!
Pretty cool! Now if there was something that would magically store all the other odd sods my hubby has.....other than me!

Brenda Bliss

Brenda Bliss was in to longarm quilt her two gorgeous winter quilts. Both quilts have started with a panel from Northcott fabrics. The clearness and the colours are just amazing!
The Owl quilt is for Brenda so she really wanted the perfect quilt design for her! She chose Time Warp and Glide Cerulean for the top thread. For the Lake panel quilt she chose the Raindrops digital design with Glide Cerulean thread. Lori Dewart was the helper on the quilt.
Beautiful quilts Brenda and thank you so much for sharing with us all!

This quilt was quite emotional for Cheryl to make. She had made a memory quilt for all the members of her family and she was last. She found it to be the hardest.

Gail MacDonald

Is this not one of the most fantastic quilted wallhangings ever? Gail MacDonald started with a Dream Big panel (45") and then ordered the laser cut applique pieces. She carefully arranged them and then brought the quilt in for us to longarm for her.
The photo is with her daughter who came to pick up the quilt. Quilt has been longarmed by Bill Fagervik, our manquilter. The digital design chosen is Called Bird Bath with Glide Tabriz Orchid for the top thread. Lori Dewart did the Binding. Heather told them to....LOL
Just fantastic Gail! You are amazing! Thank you for sharing!

Sue Pare

Our very own Sue Pare brought her darling little quilt in for us to longarm quilt for her. Her quilt is Bright Birdie with the design chosen Busy Bees.
Busy Bees is one of our most popular designs. It digitizes (resizes) very well and works on lots of different projects. The thread chosen is Affinity Rainbow by Glide. This is a variegated thread for over the top results! Leslie Ford is the longarmer on this one.
Thank you to Sue for sharing all her talents with us! You are just amazing Sue!

Mary Jane Reid

Mary Jane Reid came in to longarm quilt this gorgeous quilt! The stars really show because of the great contrast with the black, white and red. Her placement of the colours is perfect with a gorgeous finish to the quilt. Even more amazing is the back of the quilt, which she created by using what she had left over from the front. Very effective! See below for a photo of the back of the quilt.
The quilt is quilted with a digital design called Spring Petals with Glide Cool Grey 3 for the top thread. Leslie Ford was the helper for this one. I will try and get the name of the pattern of the quilt for you all.
Thank you to Mary Jane for sharing with us all! You are a rock star!

Gail Epp.

Gail Epp, who is a bit of a free spirit, created 2 beautiful I Spy quilts with so many different fabrics I could have spent an hour just looking at it all! Gail used a simple pattern, but her use of the fabrics is fantastic with great balance in the values of the fabrics! A couple of very lucky little ones will be over the moon with this generous gift!
We quilted the quilt for Gail using a digital design called Double Bubble for a fun finish with Glide thread Royal. Leslie did the longarming on her quilts.
Thank you to Gail for bringing us along on your quilt journey!

This one was quilted using Alfresco for the digital design and Glide Plum thread for the top thread. Longarm quilted by Lori Dewart.

Jeff Pelltier

Jeff Pelltier created this jaw dropping amazing quilt for his friend, Kathleen Alcock. We have a few photos of the quilt and even the original Jane Austin Quilt in England.
Jeff was kind enough to send me a short story of the quilt and I think you will find it all very fascinating!
"As promised, here's the pics of the Jane Austen quilt that I made for Kathleen.
It's a replica of the original quilt Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra made that's on display at Chawton Cottage in the UK. Riley Blake re-released all of the original fabrics that were used in the original quilt. It's 80"x100 and has 273 fussy cut diamonds. I quilted it with my APQS Lenni, all done with ruler work and free motion quilting. Kathleen can bring it in to show it off if you'd like to see it in person. It's really stunning.
I used the Robert Kaufman Library of Rarities antique book wideback for the backing fabric and Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting and Glide 40wt Linen thread."

Scissor Sharpening

We have discovered a fellow in town, Rick Walker, a fully certified, scissor sharpener who will come and sharpen your scissors here at the shop. Rick comes with 40 years of experience and does a great job! He will even sharpen pinking shears, grooming shears and more.
Drop your scissors off at the shop and as soon as we have enough to make it worthwhile we will have him come out. I would think 4 - 5 pairs should be good.
Cost is $10 a pair.
Just a side note from us: He sharpened our batting scissors and did amazing! They are like brand new scissors!
