Moonstone by Edyta Sitar

Edyta Sitar has a line of fabric out called "Moonstone" and it is gorgeous. A beautiful print that feels a little bit vintage, a little bit modern and just so warm and cozy. Everything that I think a quilt should be.
Moonstone has a well defined light value and dark value. Again, I couldn't pick just a few so I ended up getting the line. We have it up close to the till so I can see it and pet it often throughout the day.
Fat Quarter packs will be ready early next week. In the meantime come on in to take a look at this awesome fabric or check it out online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/iishop?form_version=2&showSearchResults=1&search_keyword=moonstone&image=Search

Abandon 11 by Tim Holtz

We have been anxiously waiting for the line called Abandon 11 to arrive. It comes all the way from South Carolina so quite a journey but so worth it!
Tim Holtz is the designer of the vintage looking fabrics for Free Spirit. We still have some of the fabrics from Abandon 1 in stock and now these really add to the beauty of them on my shelves. I do love them on my shelves. But they are still for sale at $21.99 meter.
Free Spirit has a free downloadble pattern if you are wondering what to do with all these wonderful fabrics. Pictured below with a link to get the free pattern: https://www.freespiritfabrics.com/product_images/CuriousByNatureQuilt.pdf

Brenda Hodgkiss

Brenda Hodgkiss brought her quilt in for us to longarm quilt for her. Brenda really worked hard on this one as it was completely out of her box!
Never having done a quilt with blocks on point she struggled to get her quilt to come together, but look at it now! Isn't that amazing? I never tire of hearing how quilters can be the most stubborn persnickety sewists out there! We just dig our heels in and are bound and determined to not let the pattern win!....LOL
Brenda you did a fabulous job on your quilt and congratulations for sticking with it and look what you have now! You rock girl!

Shirley Chizma

Shirley Chizma was in to longarm quilt her lovely little baby quilt. With help from Bill, who rather photo bombed this picture, she had this one done super fast and it looks fabulous!
Shirley's quilt is a great size for any infant or toddler measuring at 42" x 50". The edge to edge design she chose to have on the quilt using the computer is called Amelia's Quilt Leapfrog and top thread chosen is Glide Celery. Shirley used Quilter's Dream Poly batting for a perfect finish to a quilt that will be washed frequently.
Thank you so much, Shirley for sharing your talents and your day with us! Always a great time when Shirley comes in to quilt.

Verna Miller

Verna Miller was in this week to long arm quilt this lovely little lap quilt. It is a bit hard to tell from the picture but it is just so inviting and warm! All in country colours of chocolate browns, oranges, golds, greens and even the odd little splash of blue it turned out great!
With help from trusty Bill she had the quilt loaded and finished in 2 hours! Verna chose one of my favourite edge to edge designs using the computer called Plume. It has the most delightful whirls and fanciful twirls.
Verna even learned a whole new notion that will change her world. It is the batting tape! She had never heard of it before and it is just the bees knees. Instead of stitching your batting pieces together, you butt the edges up to one another, lay the batting tape down [ fusilble side down] and just press in place. It is so soft and wonderful! No lumps and bumps and you can quilt through it like butter!
Thank you to Verna for the smiles today, the willingness to always learn something new and your quilting journey with us all!

Donna Stroud

Donna Stroud purchased this great panel from us in June and finished it all up. She very kindly sent us a photo of it all done!
The quilt is hand quilted and I was so impressed with her stitching. All the stitches are the same length and so lovely and even. When I grow up I want to be a Donna Stroud! LOL
The border is a Tartan fabric she purchased while visiting Newfoundland and was in St. John's. This just makes this project so cool! I love any story that comes with the quilt.
Thank you to Donna for sharing with us all your gorgeous little quilt!

Leslie Heppner

Leslie Heppner was in to pick up her quilts that she had us quilt for her. This lady is like a very creative talented machine!!! As fast as she sees a fabric she loves, she is on it and already planning the next one!
First up we have Leslie posing as Vanna White with her gorgeous teals and creams Bargello quilt. Leslie really paid attention to the colour values in this one and it certainly paid off!
We have noticed a renewed interest in Bargello quilts lately. Just remember that your lightest fabric will end up next to your darkest fabric.
Are you wanting to get some of your projects quilted? We are at a week to a week and half turnaround. To get an estimate of what your quilt will cost to be quilted : length x width x .03cents. You can just bring your quilt in with batting and backing 4" larger all around or send an email to me at info@fabricshelf.ca

Leslie Heppner

Here we have Leslie Heppner with her 2 bird quilts she did from panels we had in stock. The purple one is called Jacaranda [bird is an Egret] and we currently have 2 panels in stock. The blue/green quilt is a Heron and was sold out so fast!
Lori Dewart did the quilting on the 3 quilts and the result is gorgeous. Lori uses computer programming for perfect results and ability to make the pattern the proper size for the quilt. The quilting was done with Glide thread which is renown for it's strength and beautiful texture it adds to the project.
Thank you to Leslie for sharing your quilt journey with everyone!

Here we go again

Due to rising numbers in the Covid cases in the Interior we have been mandated by the Provincial Government that masks are now mandatory.
Masks must be worn at all times in the shop. The numbers allowed in the shop stay the same ....limit of 10.... and we have the hand sanitizing stations still at the door and at the till.
We ask for everyone to be respectful and considerate towards all small and large businesses out there. Together, with kindness and calmness we will get through this. Thank you.

Sewing Machine Repair

A little bit of a change to the machine repair schedule.
Bill has rescheduled when he will visit his dad in Salmon Arm to Wednesdays. He will bring your machines out to meet up with Hector in Salmon Arm. there is no added cost for Bill to bring your machines over to Salmon Arm.
Hector then takes the machines back to Kelowna to service and you get your machine back the following Thursday.
Hoping this all makes sense to you. If you have any questions please give us a call at 250-376-7630 or you can email us info@fabricshelf.ca
***Please note that the price of the servicing is going up by $10 to offset Hector and Tammy's travel costs up from Kelowna and back. **** We have openings for machines to be serviced. Don't forget that Hector and Tammy service sergers as well.
If you can drop your machines off by end of day on Tuesday you can be assured your machine will get over to Hector.

Welcome Winter

Friday there was great excitement in the shop as Jim the Delivery man arrived with 8...count them 8......large boxes of product from Northcott fabrics! It was so exciting!
In these boxes was mostly Winter and Christmas fabric with some batiks in as well. One of the Winter lines I just fell in love with is Welcome Winter. Bright happy colours with a Snowman and cardinals, what is not to love? The panel is a 36" x 44" beauty and there are loads of coordinates. As well, you will find a panel with Christmas stockings and a panel with an advent calendar!
Check out all our new fabrics in store and online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/WINTER-WELCOME-SNOWMAN-PANEL-x60094987.htm

How do we work with Panels?

Working with panels can be a bit challenging. Is there ever a perfectly straight panel? They are a rare thing, that is for sure! I have come across a handy little blurb on some tips and tricks for working with a panel that is just not going to be nice and straight and behaved. I found the information on having the panel fall of the edge of the table interesting and it makes perfect sense! Why didn't I think of that? Information comes courtesy of Northcott fabrics.
Click on the link for some great tips and tricks for working with those tricky panels: https://www.northcott.com/resourcepdf/TipoftheMonth-January2017.pdf
