Paulette Eccleston

Paulette Eccleston brought another one of her amazing quilts in to be longarmed. This one has a charcoal toned background which was perfect for offsetting the bright colours of the blocks. Her sense of colour and placement of the blocks is just perfect and I have to say, this is one gorgeous quilt!
The Edge to Edge digital quilting pattern is called Dragon's Breath with Glide Neon thread for the top of the quilt. Lori Dewart was the assistant for Paulette on this one.
Thank you to Paulette for always being so generous in sharing your creativity!

Barb Hollingshead

Barb Hollingshead brought 2 amazing quilts in to be longarm quilted. The quuilts were pieced by her cousin from London, Ontario. Lynda Warder, the piecer, did an incredible job of the piecing with the most fascinating mix of fabrics!
Barb had offered to longarm the quilts for Lynda and put a huge amount of time and effort into making it a quilt to be treasured for years to come. The Edge to Edge Digital design is called Becker's Crop Circles with Glide Sterling for the top thread. Lori and Bill both worked with Barb on these quilts.
This one is done with a New York Beauty block for precise spikes in the arcs. Notice the shape of the quilt with curved border on only 2 of the outside edges. Looks great!
Thank you to Barb and Lynda for sharing all your talents and creativity with us!

Barb Hollingshead

Here is the second quilt that Lynda Warder, London Ontario, pieced and Barb Hollingshead quilted.
This one is a small child's size quilt but again done in those bright, eye catching colours. Beautiful piecing with everything lining up beautifully!
The Edge to Edge Digital design is Becker's Crop Circles again, but the top thread has been swapped out for Glide Peach. This one could be an eye spy quilt as there is just so much to see!
Thank you again to Lynda and Barb for sharing with everyone!

My Bubba

Mary Jane Reid made this adorable My Bubba Giraffe store sample for us! He is so cute and super soft all made from top quality Shannon Minky.
The instructions called for lightly stuffing him, but we decided he needed more to give him shape. In all we used 2 bags of stuffing. A walking foot is helpful in that it keeps the fabric from slip sliding all over the place.
Finished size is 24" x 42". The My Bubba is meant for a play mat for a baby or stuffy for toddlers and older children.
Find it at the shop or online at https://www.fabricshelf.ca/iishop?form_version=2&showSearchResults=1&search_keyword=My+Bubba&image=Search

Weekly Quilting Tip

This week we have a great quilting tip for all you appliquers out there. One of the most common issues that we have when we applique is the needle getting so gunked up with the fusible web.
The more layers of applique pieces you have the bigger this problem can become. If you use the alcohol wipes to just clean off the needle every so often you will find your problem with this will be gone!
Now the alcohol wipes....where are they and what are they? You can use the cleaning wipes or even better you can use the hand or eyeglass wipes. Costco sells the eyeglass wipes in boxes. Being Costco you know you are going to get enough eyeglass cleaners to last for years if not your life.

Tulip Time

I finally completed my Tulip Time table runner and have it in the shop for show. I chose the Edyta Sitar fabric line Little Sweetheart all in soft creams, pinks and reds.
This is a vintage look with soft tones and so pretty. I chose the grid fabric for the binding which I am super happy with. I would rate this project at a confident Beginner level. Mostly connector corners it goes together super quick and easy.
We have the sample and kits in the shop as well as on the website https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/TULIP-TIME-18x37-x64478181.htm

Kantha Carryall Bag

The free pattern this week is rather interesting. It is by Free Spirit and is called the Kantha Carryall Bag and is made from 1 square of fabric 35" and the rest is all in the way it is folded and stitched.
We do not have any Kantha fabric in the shop but I think it may be worth a try in any heavier fabric. I also wondered if you took quilting cotton and fused a interfacing to it, then placed a lining and stitched all around the edges would the weight be comparable? Hmmmm......inquiring minds need to know.
I would love to see some of these bags made up so give it a try and send a photo in for the next newsletter. For a free pattern click on the link: https://www.freespiritfabrics.com/product_images/KanthaCarryallBag.pdf
