Ukrainian Quilts

Barb Hollingshead has forwarded me the following request for donation quilts to Ukrainian immigrants settling in Kamloops.
Kamloops Immigrant Services is gathering quilts to be donated to Ukrainians who have fled their home country due to war. As they have been able to come with only what they can carry in a suitcase, Canadians are rallying to provide the necessities of life.
If you have a quilt (preferably new) that you could donate that will be given to a Ukrainian newcomer, please drop it off at Kamloops Immigrant Services, 448 Tranquille Rd (at the intersection of Yew St).
It would be helpful if you could mark the size of the quilt whether it be lap, twin, double etc. At present over 100 Ukrainians have arrived in Kamloops. To date approximately 30 quilts have been donated.
If you live in another community, do check to see if there are Ukrainians in your area who would appreciate a quilt. Thank you very much for giving this request your consideration.

Lynda Dingwell

Lynda Dingwell, of Lilloett, brought her beautiful sunflower quilt in for us to long arm for her. She started with a panel and grew her quilt from there. Best part of this quilt? The story!
Lynda has made this quilt and one more the same, just switching out the colours a bit, for two teenagers who have come to Canada from Ukraine. What a gift from the heart to welcome these youngsters to our country.
The Edge to Edge digital design is Flower Power with Glide thread Military Gold for the top thread. Isn't it just so perfect the names of the design and threads in relation to where the quilt is going? Lori Dewart is the longarmer on this one.
Thank you Lynda for all you are and all you do!

Val Schilds, lover of flannels and gnomes created this gorgeous heirloom quilt for her kids. The colours, the design, the gnomes and it is flannel!! It just ticks all the boxes for Val!
The Edge to Edge design is Snow Winds and the top thread is Glide Pale Mist. This one was longarmed by our very own Leslie Ford.
Thank you to Val for sharing with everyone! You are amazing!!

Corrie MacDonald

Corrie MacDonald created this lovely child's quilt for one of her grandchildren! She had never done connector corners before and was just gobsmacked when she found out how easy it is! For me, I was just so excited that she gets to learn a new technique and guess where it is going? To Norway!! Isn't that so cool?
I have to say, this quilt was so exciting for Corry there was almost tears! She just couldn't believe that she could make something so amazing!
The quilt was edge to edge stitched using the Busy Bees design which was digitized to fit beautifully on the quilt. Top thread is Glide Lemon Ice for a soft pastel look. Leslie Ford was the longarmer on this one.
Thank you to Corrie for sharing with us all. You have warmed my heart more than you can know.
Kits are available in the shop and on our website https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/DUCKLING-DUCKLING-GO-36x53-x60429265.htm

Shirley Chizma

Shirley Chizma brought 2 adorable little girl quilts in for us to longarm for her.We are only showing the one because they are identical. Shirley had hit a bit of a roadblock when it was time for the sashing, so came into the shop looking for some help. Leslie Ford was able to help her out with some turquoise solid to really make those blocks pop up!
The theme in the quilt is cats and birdhouses and we had the perfect Edge to Edge design called Hip Kitties. Top thread is Glide Mint Julep. Longarm quilted by Leslie Ford for the first one and Lori Dewart for the second identical quilt.
Thank you to Shirley for sharing with us all!

Beginner Ruler Quilting

Kellie has completed and uploaded her On Demand Beginner Quilting Ruler Class! There are just over 2 hours of instruction in this course!
She has added different designs and techniques from our Zoom on demand class, as she had just a little more time!
Best part??? When you purchase your rulers from me you get the class for free!!!
She teaches this class using her domestic machine, but it is easy to translate this to your sit down longarm as well! If you have a longarm on a frame, the majority of the class will also be applicable, you will just be moving the head of your machine, rather than the fabric and ruler.
What is an On Demand class? It is a class that once you purchase, you can watch as many times as you like and pause it whenever you want!
This class is made for the beginner ruler quilter or the ruler quilter who just wants a refresher or to learn some fun new designs.
It is particularly important that you have the right thickness of rulers for your machine. Please take a moment to watch this video to ensure you have the correct thickness prior to the class date: "1/4" or 1/8" thick ruler? Which is right for me?" Click on the link for the proper thickness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPDf_JWX-aM
Once you complete the course, you will be able to complete the table topper shown, In fact, she even provides you with the PDF pattern to make the topper! Click on the link to the class: https://sillymoonquiltingco.ca/collections/classes/products/2003468
Unsure what you need for the class? https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0081/7666/4634/files/Beginner_Ruler_Quilting_Workshop_Supply_List.pdf?v=1634327715&mc_cid=8886a7c544&mc_eid=9588815e6b
The rulers she uses are the Charming and the Edgie 6 or the Edgie 10. Both of these rulers are available in our shop.

Weekly Quilting Tip

This week I have a very well written article on working with Minky. I know many of you dread working with it for various reasons....fluff everywhere, slipping and sliding let alone what needle do I use? Is it okay to mix cottons and Minky? One shrinks and the other doesn't...so now what do I do? I could go on for an hour just with the questions. Get all your questions answered! The only thing I would add to the article is that I have found using your walking foot is really helpful.
Click on the link for this great article: https://d1nvdmt0osh3cv.cloudfront.net/media/tip/file/m/i/minky_guru.pdf
Shannon Fabrics puts out a fun article on 9 projects you can make using Minky! Starting with an easy baby blanket and 8 more easy fun projects. https://blog.shannonfabrics.com/blog/2019/06/18/best-sewing-projects-minky-faux-fur-fabric

Coiffure by Windham

This week's free pattern comes to you from Windham Fabrics. Finishing at a lap size of 60" x 64" you could use this one on the wall as well. How about in a hair salon?
I just love the fun, modern feathery look. I would work from my stash of bright batiks. And then head over to the shop and add a few more which is the normal way I seem to do scrappy projects! LOL
Click on the link for the free pattern and have some fun making this great quilt: https://windhamfabrics.com/images/project/Coiffure_WF.pdf
