Roxy Agar

Roxy Agar brought her quilt in for us to longarm for her. She has sent a bit of a write up on it and it has a fascinating story with it.
Right now the quilt is travelling with Glennda Dafoe, sales rep for EE Schenck, out to Alberta. On our FB page you can follow the travels as it makes it way to Roxy's sister in Carstairs. Here is the article from Roxy:
"2022 -This quilt is called Ladies Album by Barbara Brackman. The fabrics are from Barbara's Moda Civil War Reproduction fabrics. the prints recall the years from 1860 to 1890. she describes it as a mirror of historical styles rather than her own style She adapted the design so that the block pieces can be cut from jelly rolls and the background from 10" squares. The quilt is having quite the journey to fruition. My cousin bought the kit in Calgary about 7 years ago with the intention of learning how to quilt. She is an accomplished sewer and has made heritage costumes that have won her prizes. However she looked at this patterna nd decided it was beyond her and put it away. she recenty told me about it and I suggest that she send it to me and I'll sew it up for her. Now that it is completed and quilted by Bill from Heather's Fabric Shelf(thank you Bill), it is embarking on a trek back to Alberta. Glennda Dafoe offered to drop it off for me, but first it will go through the Kootenays on route to its final destination. Thank you Glennda! Sometimes when a quilt has a story, it becomes more interesting. I chose a Baptist motif for the quilting as it is also an old design that would complement the quilt with its curves and flow. There are a lot of thoughts as to where this particular motif came from. Some say it was the shape of the fans the church ladies used to stay cool, to the easy flow of the quilting the women found while gathered around the quilt frame in their quilting bees in church basements, as it followed the natural movement of the their arms around the frame. My cousin is delighted to have it done and can't wait to see it and enjoy it. Maybe she will become a future quilter."

Beginner ruler Quilting

Kellie has completed and uploaded her On Demand Beginner Quilting Ruler Class! There are just over 2 hours of instruction in this course!
She has added different designs and techniques from our Zoom on demand class, as she had just a little more time!
Best part??? When you purchase your rulers from me you get the class for free!!!
She teaches this class using her domestic machine, but it is easy to translate this to your sit down longarm as well! If you have a longarm on a frame, the majority of the class will also be applicable, you will just be moving the head of your machine, rather than the fabric and ruler.
What is an On Demand class? It is a class that once you purchase, you can watch as many times as you like and pause it whenever you want!
This class is made for the beginner ruler quilter or the ruler quilter who just wants a refresher or to learn some fun new designs.
It is particularly important that you have the right thickness of rulers for your machine. Please take a moment to watch this video to ensure you have the correct thickness prior to the class date: "1/4" or 1/8" thick ruler? Which is right for me?"
Click on the link for the proper thickness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPDf_JWX-aM
Once you complete the course, you will be able to complete the table topper shown, In fact, she even provides you with the PDF pattern to make the topper! Click on the link to the class: https://sillymoonquiltingco.ca/collections/classes/products/2003468
Unsure what you need for the class?

The rulers she uses are the Charming and the Edgie 6 or the Edgie 10. Both of these rulers are available in our shop and on our website https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/EDGIE-6---14-THICKNESS-x49590137.htm

Autumn Falls Runner

I came across this lovely, easy to do and Beginner friendly table runner pattern and wanted to share it with you all. Two quarter meters (10") will give you 2 maple leaves, so you definitely could work from your stash.
The project is comprised mostly with Half Square triangles. Make more of the maple leaves and turn it into a lap quilt or maybe design matching placemats with the leaf in the centre. Lots of ideas!
The pattern comes from Robert Kaufman : https://www.robertkaufman.com/assets/pdf/AutumnFallsRunner-Sienna.pdf
