Meet Your Neighbour!

pat-salloway-and-val-mcdougall-005

We are changing things up a little bit on the newsletter. Instead of a Hero of the Week we will have a Meet your Neighbour. Same idea, just a different title.

To kick things off I chose Val McDougall. I have known Val for many years now and am constantly amazed at her love of life, her sense of humour and her endless ability to empathize for all around her.

Val was born in Saskatchewan but raised in BC. She moved around while growing up and finally settled in Kamloops. Val started her quilting journey back in the 1970's. She had met some people who were looking for help in providing blankets to children in need.

So guess what? Val jumped on that train and started quilting for the children. All these years later and she is quilting for Hospice, Basics for Babies and more.

Val, you are a remarkable woman who has achieved so much in her lifetime and is such a source of inspiration.

Well done Mary Jane and thank you for coming in. We always have such a good time when Mary Jane is in the building!

Marilyn Salle was in to long arm quilt this darling little baby quilt for a friend.

This project just goes to show that sometimes simple is best! You nailed it on this one, Marilyn!

Kathleen Alcock

janice-gillis-005

Kathleen Alcock was in to long arm quilt this gorgeous "Words of Wisdom" quilt on Thursday!

Can you believe this is the same kit as Correy MacDonald made? Correy's is shown below. With half square triangles made from 15 dark and 15 light fat quarters they both moved their blocks around to achieve something totally different, but equally effective!

This one will be on display in the shop until the kits are gone. Kits are available in shop and on line at http://www.fabricshelf.ca

Correy MacDonald

  012

Correy MacDonald was in to long arm quilt his gorgeous quilt on the weekend.

She took the class to learn to use the machine and then went to town on finishing up the quilt.

Her quilt is going to a family member who is ill and in need of comfort. Quilts are such an enduring legacy of warmth, caring and love! Maybe that is part of what appeals to all of us crazy quilters out there!

Thank you Correy for coming in and I am sure this quilt will bring the comfort intended.

Very exciting news for everyone! One of my best friends and fellow quilting addicts from Haida Gwaii is coming down to teach a class here at the shop!

Linda Rowbotham will be here September 14 and 15th to teach a class using a very cool technique to make these gorgeous table runners. This is not paper pieced. It is a slice and insert method! You literally cannot make a mistake!! Have to love that!

You can make as many stars as you wish. In the sample there are 3 and we will have samples in the shop. Because she lives on the ocean Linda has gone with a beach theme in colours. You could choose any colour you like. Night sky? Bright fun colours? Batiks or regular cottons? The world is your oyster ladies!

Cost of the class is $45 and is a one day class so choose your day and come on in to the shop for this great class. Pattern is included. Please note - the tax is included in the price on the Website : http://www.fabricshelf.ca

It is not too early to start those winter projects! Why not get started with this stunning winter scene to use on it's own, in a table runner or?

This is a great project to practice using the satin stitch on your machine. You could also use this one for trying out some of your fancy rayon or metallic threads.
