Lynda Dingwall

Lynda Dingwall brought her gorgeous Wilderness quilt in for us to long arm for her. The fabrics and the layout are just so beautiful! Lynda did great on balancing the colours and the fabrics!
The quilt measures at 72" x 88" with the Edge to Edge digital design Bear, Moose and Pine really setting the mood. The top thread is Glide Brass for a lovely gold shimmer to the quilt. Longarm quilted by Leslie Ford.
Thank you to Lynda for sharing your talents!

Maureen Connolly

Maureen Connolly was in to long arm the cutest little girl quilt ever! Maureen used the little girl's favourite colours and even put her name, Daphne, on the quilt! What little girl wouldn't fall in love with this one?
Maureen had help from Lori this time and used an Edge to Edge digital design called Alfresco, with big happy flower petals and swirls. The top thread chosen was Glide Cloud for a soft beautiful finish.
A beautiful quilt Maureen and thank you so much for sharing your day with us!

Kathleen Nadler

Kathleen Nadler pieced and quilted this jaw dropping gorgeous quilt herself! Pattern is by Violet Crafts and is called Wolf Abstractions. Kathleen quilted her quilt under her domestic machine using Silly Moon rulers for an incredible finish!
First photo is Kathleen with the quilt and the second is a close up of the quilt. I will try to get in close enough to see the quilting. It is just amazing!
Sadly I have none of the patterns in stock but hope to get some on the order this week.

Silly Moon Rulers

Kellie of Silly Moon Quilting Co. did and interview with Karen Brown of "Just Get it Done Quilts" recently. She had several inquiries since the interview about what retailers carry her products, and which shop would be the closest for them.
These are some of the rulers that Kathleen Nadler has used on her Wolf Abstractions shown above.
Kellie has sent me the video to share with everyone. Great time to pour a cup of coffee and kick back and enjoy!

Amrita Ollek

Amrita Ollek was in to long arm quilt her fun Grinch Christmas quilt. It is never too early to start those Christmas projects and I have to admit I wanted to go home and sew a Grinch quilt too! However I didn't and stayed at work.....le sigh....
A simple pattern of squares and stars but i loved the colours! The backing is Cuddletex in the Grinch Green! Top thread is Glide Shamrock. Leslie Ford is the helper for Amrita on this one.
Thank you to Amrita for sharing with us all!

Weekly Quilting Tip

Have you ever wondered what needle you should be using with your piecing and quilting of your quilt? I will be brutally honest and tell you all that when I started out I really didn't think it was a big deal! I have now changed my mind on that, to say the least!
For my piecing I use a Jeans 80/12 needle for all the cotton piecing. Because it is made a bit stronger than the Universal I find that it has less flex in the shaft of the needle. If I am sewing at home and run out of Jeans 80/12 I will use a Universal in the same size.
If I am piecing in batik then I move to a Microtex needle in a size 10, 11 or 12. It leaves less of a hole and because Batik is denser it works much better.
When it comes to the quilting of the quilt, I use Jeans 12 or Microtex needle but will also use a Quilting size 11 or 12. The only time I use a 14 is if I have very thick fabric and never on Batik.
We carry Schmetz needles in the shop so come on in for a look or order from the website: https://www.fabricshelf.ca/shop/c/p/SCHMETZ-DENIM-NEEDLES-8012-x24265125.htm
