Meet Your Neighbour

rose-seymour-002

This week I would like everyone to meet Rose Seymour. Rose is an avid quilter who does an amazing amount of community quilting. She supports the Food Bank, quilts for Cancer patients and Fire victims as well as baby quilts to support First Nations! How inspiring is that?

Rose was born in Kelvington Saskatchewan and lived there for 4 years. The family then moved out to the Columbia Valley area. She lived and grew up in Windermere and attending school in Invermere. Rose met her future husband in high school and married one year out of school. Rose and her husband were ranchers settling in the Heffley Louis Creek area. Now retired from ranching .....she quilts! What a great retirement plan!

Rose started quilting in 2006 and hasn't looked back. She has always enjoyed sewing from the time she was a little girl sewing doll clothes. Quilting is just another branch of the sewing tree! Rose loves every part of the quilting process from choosing patterns, fabrics, piecing , quilting the quilt and the binding!

It was wonderful to get to know you a bit better Rose and I want to thank you for being so generous with your time and talents to the community!

Patti Eckert was in to long arm quilt her lovely little baby quilt this week! We were so excited to see her as it is a bit of a trek for her. She comes down from the Cariboo to finish her quilts using our APQS Millie rental program.

The first photo is the front of the quilt and the second is the back of the quilt! I just loved the fabric used for the back!

Thank you Patti for the inspiration you gave to us all!

A trunk show? At our shop? Yes! Guess who the presenters are?
YOU!!
Let's have a Sunday afternoon , July 14th, showing our very first quilt! I think this would be so much fun to see what everyone made for the their first project! If you don't still have your very first one, that is okay. Just bring the earliest one you can find. No cost, just fun with some door prizes and snacks.

Just a bit of a heads up.....I have mine still after all these years, made from some stunning Walmart cotton. Looks like one of the grandkids has spilled some juice on one edge. I actually called this quilt "Missing Points" and I am sure you can guess why!

Save the date July 14th from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Give us a call at 250-376-7630 to reserve your seat!

Maureen Connolly

  maureen connelly 001

Maureen Connolly was in to long arm quilt her gorgeous "Four Patch Charm" quilt. Maureen's inspiration came from a sample that Betty Oswell had made for the shop a while ago. Betty's was in solids with a grey background, whereas Maureen's is done in batiks with a very light background. Both versions are stunning! Maureen's quilt is to the right and Betty's is below.

The best part? The pattern is a free download from Tamarack Shack. You can get the free PDF version by clicking here: http://tamarackshack.blogspot.com/2016/10/free-pdf-download-patternfour-patch.html

Denim and Leather BOM

Denim_Leather_Stars_Block_of_the_Month-Registration_Fee_1

Act Fast! Only 5 spots remaining!

A new Block of the Month program has started at the shelf! We just love the rich blues and deep browns in this project. One of the most appealing aspects of this quilt is that it is suitable for young, older, male, female, weddings, graduations and more. Not a lot of quilts tick that many boxes, but this one does it all!

Price of the program is a $25 commitment fee and then $39 per month for 7 months. You can purchase the entire  kit for $279 and waive the commitment fee if that works better for you. The quilt is on display at the front of the shop so come on by and take a look!

You can give us a call at 250-376-7630 or check it out on line : http://www.fabricshelf.ca

How to Sew an Accurate 1/4" seam allowance

One of the most common issues that quilters run into is not having an accurate 1/4" seam allowance. Sometimes you may even need to sew  with a scant 1/4' seam - just move the needle 1 or 2 positions over. I did find this article on checking for that elusive 1/4" seam allowance and wanted to share with you.
