Closed for the September long weekend!

For the first time since we opened all those years ago we are closing for the entire September Labour Day weekend!
Bill and I will be up to the Barriere Fall Fair on Saturday morning and then off for the rest of the weekend! How moley I feel like such a rebel!
Enjoy the long weekend and we'll see you when we open on the Tuesday.

Sally Andrysiak

Sally Andrysiak brought her incredible Postage Stamp quilt in to be quilted. She is a crazy lady with her piecing....each block is made of 16 x 11/2" squares!!!! The quilt finished at 63" x 74" and is just amazing. One of those quilts you can spend ages just looking at and see different things each time!
Sandy Smith did the longarming using the E2E design Beckers Crop Circles. Top thread is Warm Grey 4 Glide.

Barb Haines

Barb Haines pieced this gorgeous quilt called Resplendent by Jason Yenter for In the Beginning Fabrics. I had done mine in the autumn tones and Barb chose the rich purples. The fabrics are so rich in colour and lovely to work with. Love the In the Beginning fabric lines. 

Barb came in to long arm quilt her project herself. She chose the Modern Curves E2E design for fabulous movement. Top thread is Glide Mulberry.

Judi Ekelund

Judi Ekelund brought her beautiful whole cloth quilt into the shop to be long arm quilted. Her project is a whole cloth.....in other words one piece of fabric for the front and one fabric for the back. 
She used a piece of fabric that totally gave the feeling of water and calmness. Just perfect!
Bill did the long arm quilting using the E2E design called Calm Clouds and Glide thread Pixie for the top.

Free Apron Pattern

In the dog days of summer you may want to indulge in something quick, easy but fun to make. I think an apron may be just the ticket!

A free pattern from Robert Kaufman, this apron could be made in Christmas fabrics so you look like a keener, fun bright summer prints or how about some of our lovely Tilda fabrics! The apron is lined and has the handy pockets we all like to have. 

Fabric quantities and instructions are included in the pattern. You are going to need .75 to 1 meter of each fabric. You may even have something in your stash that would work!

Sewing bird

This beautiful antique tool was designed in the 19th century for hand sewing. Clamped to the edge of a table, it acted as a "3rd hand" keeping the fabric taut as one sewed. By pressing the top and bottom tail together it opens the beak, which allows the sewer to place the fabric in the beak holding it securely while stitching a hem or seam. Keep in mind that the sewing machine was not invented.  This involved a lot of hand sewing; to be exact, hemming! A very handy tool to have before the invention of the sewing machine.

We have a new selection of Sashiko supplies in from the amazing talented Sylvia Pippen. Use her pre printed panels or trace your patterns onto your own fabrics using tracing paper.

Vibrant colours of sashiko threads, rich batiks all work to create a stunning project. If you are looking for something relaxing and relatively easy to do Sashiko is your answer. simple running stitches with the occasional French Knot or other stitch and you have a one of a kind piece of art work!

The Sewing Machine Doctors are here on Aug.20th and Sept. 3 and Sept 24th to get your machines all serviced and happy for the upcoming season of retreats, Christmas sewing and quilting fun!
